VERMILLION, S.D. — The South Dakota swimming and diving teams posted a strong performance to earn a dual meet victory over South Dakota State in action at the USD Natatorium. The men’s team took a 200-98 win while the women won 188.5-110.5.
Eight different Yotes took multiple individual wins today, the most coming from Alex Parkinson who took wins in the 500 free, 1000 free, and 400 IM. Nick Rounds was another multi-event winner as he took the 50 free along with the 100 fly. Joaquin Contreras-Fallico took control of the backstroke events winning the 100 and 200 while James Schreiber was the top finisher in the 100 and 200 freestyle.
The women’s team saw Taylor Buhr take both breaststroke events as she won the 100 and 200. Gabbie Ahrendt was dominate in the sprints winning the 100 fly and the 100 free. Dawsyn Green was the last swimmer to take multiple events with her wins in the 200 fly and 400 IM.
The last multi-event winner came on the boards as Mady Schmidt won both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events.
Other wins for USD came from Henley Hatzung in the 100 back, Emily DiProspero in the 200 free, Camilla Brogger-Andersen in the 1000 free, Maddox Mork in the 1 meter dive, and Charlie Matthews in the 3 meter dive.
The Coyotes also took home four relay wins on the day with the men’s and women’s teams both winning the 200 free and 200 medley relays.

VERMILLION — Jenna Currier and Gigi Hioki claimed victories in freestyle events and freshman Lucia Lopez added a win in the 200-yard backstroke to pace South Dakota State in a 188.5-110.5 setback against South Dakota in a Summit League women’s swimming and diving dual Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Jackrabbits closed the dual season with a 2-6 overall record.
A senior from Denison, Iowa, Currier clocked the fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 24.45 seconds. She later placed second in the 100 butterfly (:58.51) and third in the 100 freestyle (:53.81).
Hioki’s victory came in the 500 freestyle as she turned in a winning time of 5 minutes, 9.72 seconds. She also swam the anchor leg of the Jackrabbits’ 200 freestyle relay, erasing nearly a half-second deficit to pull into a tie with the top USD quartet at 1:37.50. Mia Pendleton, Sara Juez and Currier made up the remainder of the SDSU foursome.
Lopez, meanwhile, posted a winning time of 2:08.15 in a closely contested 200 backstroke with teammate Lily Esmas taking third in 2:08.77.
Sophomore Hannah Miller notched a runner-up finishes in both the 100 breaststroke (1:06.93) and 100 freestyle (:53.77), while Marissa Branham was runner-up in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.55.
Fellow sophomore Emma Ingalls recorded three top-three finishes. She swam her was to second place in the 400 individual medley (4:40.70) and was third in both the 200 butterfly (2:10.93) and in her first time competing in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.72) this season.

VERMILLION — Cody Vertin swept the breaststroke events and added a runner-up finish in the 400 individual medley to lead the South Dakota State men’s swimming and diving team in dual action Saturday at South Dakota. The Jackrabbits, however, dropped a 200-98 decision to end their dual season with a 4-3 overall record.
A junior from Brookings, Vertin opened the day by winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 57.11 seconds. He followed with a winning time of 2 minutes, 3.42 seconds in the 200 breaststroke, but had his quest for a third individual victory stopped with a second-place showing in the 400 IM, clocking a time of 4:05.55.
USD’s Alex Parkinson did complete a trifecta with his winning time of 4:02.58 in the 400 IM, after earlier claiming the 1,000 freestyle (9:23.24) and 500 freestyle (4:35.25).
Braxton McGrath collected SDSU’s other individual event victory in the meet, claiming the 200 butterfly in 1:53.67 to lead a Jackrabbit sweep of the top three spots. Jack Ellison took second in 1:55.50 and Bryan Wong finished third in 1:55.67. McGrath later posted a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly (:49.94), while Ellison came in third in the 500 freestyle (4:41.96).
Freshman Colby Williams turned in a pair of second-place efforts in the backstroke events, clocking runner-up times of 52.06 seconds in the 100-yard race and 1:53.67 in the 200.
Eric Anderson added two top-three showings in the sprint freestyle races, notching second place in the 50 freestyle (:21.24) and third place in the 100 (:47.80). Anderson also teamed with Bryce Edens, Williams and Zavier Kranz for a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.10.
