ORONO, Maine — The University of Maine women’s swimming & diving team defeated Providence, 180.5-119.5, on Senior Day at Wallace Pool.
Nicolene Harkins and Mia Poirier each recorded a pair of individual victories to lead the way.
Harkins swept the distance events, taking the 500-yard freestyle at 5:17.71 and the 1000-yard freestyle with a winning time of 10:51.65.
Poirer scored a victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a final tiem of 1:57.13 and won the 100-yard free at 54.75.
Charlotte Hoover took gold in the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.07) and was the runner-up in the 100-yard back (1:00.16).
Laura Dube touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.51 and captured bronze in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:29.01.
Eva Welsh posted the top mark in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:25.29 and took silver in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:08.01.
Amelia Obszarny won the 50-yard freestyle sprint at 24.45 and took second in the 100-yard freestyle (54.80).
Macy Organ won the 200-yard fly at 2:10.70.
On the boards, Maddie Ruppert was the runner-up in the 1-meter with a score of 258.23.
Maine swept the relay events with Hoover, Dube, Obszarny, and Poirier winning the 200-yard medley relay at 1:48.79.
Emily Yorkievitz, Obszarny, Elle Cadigan, and Poirier won the took top honors in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:37.69.
ORONO, Maine — For the first time since 2017, the University of Maine men’s swimming & diving team defeated Providence, winning by a final of 174-122 on Senior Day at Wallace Pool.
Joey Stauss led the way for Maine, earning three individual victories. Stauss took top honors in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.80), the 100-yard butterfly (49.58), and the 200-yard IM (1:58.82).
Matthew Bendoraitis swept the backstroke events, winning the 100-yard back at 52.78 before capturing first place in the 200-yard back at 1:54.53.
Nate Teerlinck won the 100-yard breaststroke at 56.50 and was the runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke with a final time of 2:09.30. The Black Bears swept the podium in the 100-yard breaststroke with Jesse Lower taking second at 59.44 and Noah Machristie placing third at 59.99. Machristie won the 200-yard breaststroke with a winning time of 2:08.54.
Julian Lapietra won both the 50-yard freestyle (21.46) and the 100-yard free (46.63).
On the boards, Gray Miller took gold in the 1-meter with a score of 281.63. Jeremiah Small was the runner-up on the 1-meter board at 260.70.
Maine’s team of Bendoraitis, Teerlinck, Stauss, and Lapietra won the 200-yard medley relay at 1:33.78.

ORONO, MAINE – The Providence College men’s and women’s and diving programs traveled to Orono, Maine to face the University of Maine in dual meet action on Saturday, Jan. 24. The men’s team was defeated, 174-122. The women’s team fell to the Black Bears, 180.5-119.5.
Both teams featured impressive performances on the day. The women’s program recorded four first-place finishes during the competition. Bella Lombard claimed victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.46. Annie Gathof finished ahead of the field in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:00.19). She also finished second in the 200-yard fly (2:11.34). Jaclyn Stadler placed first in the 1-meter diving event (279.08 points) and finished second in the 3-meter diving competition (265.35 points). Fellow diver Myranda Parker claimed first place in the 3-meter event (268.20 points).
On the men’s side, Aidan Puk placed first in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.81) and the 500-yard free (4:51.78). He also competed on the Friars’ 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished second (3:11.34). The Friars put together a winning combination in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with teammates Jake Stachowicz, Noah San Vicente, Quinn Schwab and Nathan Thayer. The group hit the wall first with a time of 3:11.30.

Providence College will return to action on Jan. 31 against Holy Cross. It will mark the program’s final home meet of the season and the program will honor its senior class. Diving events are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. and the swim events will begin at 1:00 p.m.
