Day 1 Heat Sheet
The 2025 Winter Junior Nationals Championships start tonight, and USA Swimming has released updated psych sheets along with heat sheets for day one of the meet.
The updated psych sheets show some major scratches, with junior Luke Vatev and sophomore Madalyn Petty missing from their events.
Vatev swims for Hornet Swim Club in Illinois and is committed to Stanford for the Class of 2027. He came into this meet as the top seed in the 100 and 200 backstroke by a comfortable margin. He was also entered in the 50 free (9th seed), 100 fly (12th seed), 200 free (5th seed), 100 free (4th seed), and 200 butterfly (9th seed) events.
In the updated psych sheet, not only is Luke missing, but his brother Matt Vatev, a senior for Hornet who is committed to Penn for next fall, has also scratched out of the meet. Matt was the 2nd seed in the 200 breast, coming in just over two seconds behind Drew Eubanks. He was also entered in the 200 IM (12th seed), 50 free (120th seed), 100 breast (6th seed), and the 100 free (43rd seed).
Madalyn Petty, a 16-year old who swims for Tyler Rose Aquatics, was a major contender in the distance freestyle events. She was seeded 3rd in the 1000 free, 4th in the 1650 free, and 5th in the 500 free. She was also seeded 37th in the 400 IM, and 65th in the 200 free.
Petty reportedly has the flu, which is why she will not be attending the meet. The updated psych sheet still shows her in the events, but she does not appear on the heat sheet for the 1000 tonight.
