Agostina Hein Continues Impressive Performances, Takes 400 Free At Jose Finkel Trophy

2025 JOSE FINKEL TROPHY

The 2025 Jose Finkel Trophy kicked off yesterday from São Paulo, Brazil with nearly 400 athletes taking to the long course pool.

Among them was 17-year-old Agostina Hein, the Argentine breakout star who has been tearing up the record books this year.

As we reported, the Pinheiros teen fired off new benchmarks at four consecutive meets earlier this season, including the South American Junior Championships, the Copa España, the Junior Pan American Games and the World Junior Championships.

At the latter competition in Otopeni, Romania, Hein secured silver in the girls’ 800m free (8:26.19) while topping the 400m IM podium in a new championship and national record of 4:34.34.

She currently holds four individual Argentine national records in long course and three in short course:

  • LCM 200 free – 1:58.82
  • LCM 100 fly – 59.36
  • LCM 200 IM – 2:12.12
  • LCM 400 IM – 4:34.34
  • SCM 200 free – 1:56.30
  • SCM 400 free – 4:04.17
  • SCM 100 fly – 58.90

Yesterday Hein took on the women’s 400m freestyle where she grabbed the gold in a time of 4:07.43, a new championship record.

She held off Unisanta’s Maria Fernanda Costa who settled for silver in 4:08.52 while teammate Gabrielle Roncatto bagged the bronze in 4:11.99.

Hein’s time was just off her lifetime best of 4:07.06, a mark she produced in Romania to place fourth overall.

Hein also raced in the women’s 100m fly yesterday where she finished off the podium, placing fourth in 1:01.02.

Earning the top spot was Giulia Carvalho who clocked 59.21 as the only sub-minute competitor.

Luanna Oliveira earned runner-up status in 1:00.29 and Sophia Isidoro was a hair behind in 1:00.35.

The men’s 400m free saw Eduardo Oliveira Moraes get the job done, hitting a championship record of his own in 3:48.08.

That narrowly defeated Guilherme Costa who was next to the wall in 3:48.33 as the only other sub-3:50 performer. Leonardo Alcantara rounded out the podium in 3:50.34.

Moraes’ performance was about two seconds off his best-ever outing of 3:46.29 while Costa’s PB remains at the 3:42.76 which garnered him fourth place last year in Paris. That checked in as a new South American record.

Additional Notes

  • Lucio Paula stopped the clock at 52.22 to earn the men’s 100m fly victory, keeping Pedro Souza at bay. Souza secured silver in 52.77 and Kayky Mota put up 53.00 as the bronze medalist.
