4 Consecutive Meets of National Records For Agostina Hein At South America Youth Champs

Since breaking out as one of the world’s biggest junior swimming stars this summer, Agostina Hein has not taken her foot off the gas pedal.

Representing Argentina, the 17-year-old Hein is on her second record-setting meet this month: the South American Youth Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She has now broken national records at four consecutive meets.

Hein’s top swim of the week so far was the 200 free. She stopped the clock in 1:58.82, cracking two minutes for the first time and notching a new national record. 

Her gold-medal-winning long course swim this week places her #3 in the world in the new 2025-26 season.

Equally impressive was Hein’s 4:08.59 400 freestyle performance. This marked a new championship record as well as the #2 ranking in the world this season. The time fell short of her 4:07.06 personal best from Junior Worlds in Romania.

Hein added a 200 fly victory (2:11.86) and 4×100 freestyle (3:48.92) victory to her haul for the week.

Earlier in the month at the Copa España in Chile, Hein broke the Argentine record in the short course 200 free with a 1:56.30. She also became the first woman from her country to break a minute in the 100 fly, hitting 58.9.

This summer, the rising Argentine star accumulated ten medals in a 12-day span between the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay, and the World Junior Championships in Otonepi, Romania. In the former meet, one of Hein’s highlights included a 2:12.12 national record and gold in the 200 IM. In Romania, she brought back a gold in the 400 IM (4:34.34) and silver in the 800 free. The 400 IM broke a Georgina Bardach‘s South American and national record that stood for over 20 years.

River Plate, South America’s biggest football club, recognized Hein for her summer accomplishments at a game earlier this month.

Hein and Brazilian Lucio Flavio Paula earned swimmers of the meet in Rio for the older “B” age group. In the younger “A” age group, the titles went to Laila Chain (Argentina) and Lucas De (Brazil).
