Agostina Hein has been on a tear of Argentine national records in the last month, and she notched another one in the short course 200 free at the Copa España in Chile.

Hein stopped the clock in 1:56.30, downing her own previous national record of 1:56.75 from the São Paulo Summer Open in November of 2024.

It marked the 16-year-old’s second national record of the meet. On day one, she became the first woman from her country to break a minute in the SCM 100 fly, skipping over 59 with a 58.9 gold medal performance. She also took gold in the 400 freestyle in Santiago, hitting 4:04.34, just tenths off her own national record.

Split Comparison

Agostina Hein, 2025 Copa España Agostina Hein, 2024 São Paulo Summer Open
50 27.57 27.22
100 57.10(29.53) 56.80(29.58)
150 1:26.82(29.72) 1:26.80(30.00)
200 1:56.30(29.48) 1:56.75(29.95)

Compared to her previous record, Hein took a more conservative approach to the front leg of the race which paid dividends on the way home. Her 29.48 closing split was the fastest of the latter three 50s. She launches herself to #1 in the world for the first days of the 2025-2026 season. Hein holds the long course national record in this event, also, at 1:59.45.

Her elite performance at this meet comes as no surprise given the shape she was in last month at the Junior Pan Ams and World Junior Championships. At these two meets, Hein won ten medals across 12 days of competition. Most notably, she won World Junior gold in the 400 IM in 4:34.34, downing an over 20-year-old Argentine and South American record. To add to that, Hein also swam a 2:12.12 200 IM national record and picked up a silver in the 800 free at the same meet. She holds eight national records in total.

Last week, she was recognized for her recent accomplishments by her favorite soccer club, River Plate.
