Shaine Casas swam to a new World Cup Series record in the men’s 400 IM posting a 3:56.13, breaking the previous record of a 3:57.25 set by Daiya Seto of Japan back in 2018 at the World Cup stop in Eindhoven. Casas also becomes the #3 performer all-time.

The biggest difference today was the freestyle leg as Casas came home in a 55.70 compared to a 56.90 from Seto.

Casas had never raced in the SCM 400 IM until he swam it at the first stop in Carmel. There he had to swim it during the morning and posted a 4:03.10 for 3rd. Just last week, he earned the win in the event with a 3:57.41 and dropped over another second today for his win. He is now only 0.63 seconds off of the American Record of a 3:55.50 set by Ryan Lochte back at 2010 Short Course Worlds.

I gotta wonder if they add this event to the LCM schedule?? Or does he go back to focusing on 100 fly?

Yeah, the fact that he’s 3rd and 6 tenths behind Lochte makes me think it should at least warrant a thought

The SCM 400 suits Shaine more, but I agree that he should at least try it LCM. He swims fast in season too, doesn’t even have to do it at trials.

I hope Bob and Shaine continue to thrive together. One of the most talented swimmers we’ve ever seen, still working to find his way to being what team USA needs. For this to be his 4th best event comparatively and he’s within .6 of one of the greatest scy/Lcm IMers of all time tells you there’s so much further to go
