SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Indiana State won six of the nine events on Saturday morning at the Hammons Student Center Pool as the Sycamores closed out the 192.5-160.5 win over host Missouri State to complete the dual meet.
Claire Parsons won two more individual events as the junior swept both the 1000-yard Freestyle and 200-yard Backstroke to go four-for-four in titles on the afternoon, while Ali Pearson took the win in the 200-yard Breaststroke and Haley Halsall won the 200-yard Fly. Indiana State also took the 200-yard Medley Relay with Sara Keefe, Ali Pearson, Raine Boles, and Erin Cummins taking the event win.
Following her scores on Saturday afternoon in her win on the 1M Springboards, Jecza Lopez has already qualified for the NCAA Zones in both the 1M and 3M Springboard events.
“I’m really pleased with how we responded today,” head coach Josh Christensen said. “We came out and took control of the meet early, which was a drastic change from yesterday. It was really good for us to have to fight and struggle a bit against a really good team and still get the win. We’re looking forward to getting back to work and continuing to improve from here. We know we have a long way to go to get where we want to be as a team.”
The Sycamores opened the events in the pool with the win in the 200-yard Medley Relay with Keefe, Pearson, Boles, and Cummins touching the wall in1:44.57 to win the event by .09. The second group of Sahara Visscher, Jenna Nave, Sophia Diaz, and Kalli Agapios finished fourth in 1:47.81, while Anna Asplund, Peyton Heagy, Allie Barasch, and Ash Saple went 1:50.42 to place fifth. The group of Ella Moustgaard, Kiarra Thomas, Raz Harel, and Rachel Stutz wrapped up the group in the field in 1:51.40.
Parsons continued her dominance in the water this weekend as the junior topped the field in the 1000-yard Freestyle. The Terre Haute, Ind. native went 10:16.50 to win the event by 11 seconds over teammate Grace Cummings (10:27.66), while Maria Saldana Riebeling finished third in 10:31.60. Haley Halsall (10:44.15) wrapped up the Sycamores in the event in sixth.
Parsons was back in the water for the 200-yard Backstroke to win her second event in a row going 2:04.91 to claim the title. Asplund was second in 2:05.89, while Keefe (2:07.90) and Visscher (2:08.19) finished third and fourth respectively. Kate Reeves (2:08.1), Elle Santucci (2:08.72), and Moustgaard (2:11.15) closed out the field in the pool.
Cummins and Johnson finished second and third overall in the 100-yard Freestyle event to pace the Sycamores in the event. Cummins went 52.78 in the sprint final, while Johnson touched in 52.89. Riebeling was sixth in 53.81 with Agapios (56.09), Stutz (53.88), Barasch (54.44), and Saple (54.70) completing the field.
Pearson was first to the wall in the 200-yard Breaststroke as the senior went 2:20.51 to claim the individual event title. Nave finished fourth in 2:26.47, while Heagy (2:30.14) and Thomas (2:31.79) took fifth and sixth respectively.
Halsall took the 200-yard Fly title with the senior topping the field after touching the wall in 2:06.80. Dilks (2:07.93), Diaz (2:09.96), and Boles (2:10.86) were all inside the top five. Harel went 2:12.95 to wrap up the group in the pool.
Dilks was the first Sycamore to finish in the 200-yard IM as the sophomore went 2:10.82 in the field. Santucci was fifth in 2:13.94, while Moustgaard (2:14.53) and Pearson (2:14.85) also finished inside the top eight. Keefe (2:13.27), Nave (2:14.78), Thomas (2:16.74), and Cummings (2:21.17) competed in exhibition swims on the afternoon.
The Sycamores closed out competition inside the pool with the 400-yard Freestyle Relay with the quartet of Cummins, Visscher, Johnson, and Parsons finishing second overall in 3:31.61. The group of Heagy, Barasch, Riebeling, and Stutz was third in 3:34.97, while Asplund, Diaz, Agapios, and Boles was fifth in 3:42.52. Saple, Halsall, Harel, and Reeves rounded out the group in 3:48.55.
Lopez completed the 1M Springboard diving sweep, winning the event with a six-dive score of 285.10 to pace the field by nearly 30 points. Brenna Woodruff finished fourth with 231.85, while Sofia Dansereau (221.30) and Bree Cleary (209.65) also scored for the Sycamores in the event. Ella Taylor wrapped up the group with a score of 204.55.

SPRINGFIELD – Missouri State men’s swimming & diving dominated against Ouachita Baptist winning 222-122 at home, while the women’s team fell to Indiana State 192.5-160.5 on Friday and Saturday at Hammons Student Center Pool.
Day One
The MSU men took the lead after day one of competition, 119-63, winning both relays and all seven individual swim events. The Bears kickstarted the meet’s momentum with a win by sophomore Carter Crook, freshman Kiefer Roemer, sophomore Jack Ailshire and senior Lucas Chadwell (3:18.93) in the 400-yard medley relay.
Junior Anderson Brown took out the 400-yard individual medley (4:01.64) in front of sophomore Mate Miszlai (4:06.25).
Ailshire won the 100-yard butterfly (50.54), scraping past senior Chris Bedsole (50.61).
Freshman Kayden Hedrick took out the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.18), edging past sophomore Ilias El Fallaki (1:42.80).
Senior Lucas Chadwell sprinted to a win in the 50-yard freestyle (20.98).
Roemer dominated the 100-yard breaststroke (55.12), finishing almost five seconds in front of Tiger Lucas Cagle (1:00.23).
In the 100-yard backstroke Crook was victorious (51.18), scraping past Tiger Mikhail Lymar (51.32).
Fallaki did one better to take out the 500-yard freestyle comfortably, (4:40.91).
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, junior Matvei Chesakov, Roemer, freshman Zach Mendez and Chadwell teamed up to take victory, (1:22.78).
On the diving board, in the one-meter diving competition, senior Storm Opdahl won assuredly with a score of 332.85.
On the women’s side, Indiana State led by a hair after day one, 96-90.
The Bears won the three races of the day. The day was kicked off with junior Olivia Sala, senior Lana Janson, sophomore Addie Ludbrook, and junior Makenzie Kurre taking out the 400-yard medley relay (3:48.37).
Freshman Aleca Howard won the 400-yard individual medley convincingly (4:27.28).
Ludbrook took out the 100-yard butterfly (56.69), edging past sophomore Lillie Freulon (57.66).
Janson then won two brilliant races in a row, the 50-yard freestyle (24.45) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.99).
On the diving board, freshman transfer Delaney Nickles finished second with a score of 261.10 behind Sycamore Jecza Lopez with a score of 290.40.
Day Two
The men continued their dominance on Saturday with a 222-122 win, once again taking out all the medleys, individual races and dive competition.
Crook, senior Luigi Maciel da Silva, Ailshire and Chadwell teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay (1:30.71).
Freshman Zach Mendez dominated the 1000-yard freestyle (9:29.96), finishing far ahead of Tiger Tyler Andruss (9:56.28).
In the 200-yard backstroke it was sophomore Gonzolo Ruiz Vazquez who finished first (1:50.57).
Chadwell reigned over the 100-yard freestyle (45.72).
Da Silva won the 200-yard breaststroke convincingly (2:04.17).
In the 200-yard butterfly, Hedrick (1:51.60) scraped past Bedsole (1:51.76) while Ailshire ensured an MSU podium sweep in third (1:55.48).
Anderson Brown took out the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.30) in front of Ruiz Vazquez (1:56.08) and Roemer (1:56.30).
The Bears wrapped up the swimming portion of the meet with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay by Chesakov, Bedsole, Mendez and Chadwell (3:04.14).
In the three-meter dive, Opdahl once again took the victory with 337.85 points just in front of senior Logan Schelfaut with 330.05 points.
The women’s team fell to the Sycamores with a 192.5-160.5 scoreline as Indiana State managed to stay just in front of the Bears at the completion of competition on Saturday.
In the opening 200-yard medley relay, Sala, Janson, Ludbrook, and Johnson finished second (1:44.66) right behind Indiana State’s Sara Keefe, Ali Pearson, Raine Boles and Ali Pearson (1:44.57).
The Bears kept fighting hard to close the gap.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Kurre was victorious (52.16).
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Howard finished second (2:21.83) behind Sycamore Ali Pearson (2:20.51).
Howard went one better in the 200-yard individual medley, taking the win (2:07.24) with Janson right behind her (2:09.83).
The Bears finished the swimming portion of the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Johnson, freshman Paige Corbin, Kurre and senior Ainsley Jenkins claiming victory (3:30.38).
On the diving board, in the one-meter competition, Sycamore Jecza Lopez once again dominated with a score of 285.10. Nickels finished second with 256.40 points. Junior Maggie Arceneaux was right behind her with 244.90 points.
Missouri State swimming and diving will travel to Nebraska to face Omaha in a two-day meet starting on Friday, Oct. 31 at 4:00 p.m. at H&K Swimming Pool.

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – The 21st-ranked Ouachita men’s swimming & diving team went on the road this past weekend to compete up in classification, resulting in a 222-122 loss to Missouri State.
The Tigersharks brought a select squad to Springfield to take on the Bears in the two-day dual. The loss was the first for the squad since 2023, snapping a streak of 15 consecutive wins in dual competitions.
Senior Sam Ragsdell finished second in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events. Sophomore Gabriel Palomino finished second in one-meter diving. Lucas Cagle came in second in the 100-yard backstroke, followed closely by teammate Justin Oulette. Mikhail Lymar was a close second in both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke events. Tyler Andruss was second in both the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyle races. Anthony Paculba came in second in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The Ouachita 200 and 400 free relay teams and the 200 medley relay squad all came in second.
The Tigersharks are back home for their next two meets. Up next is Truman State this Friday, October 24 starting at 3:30 p.m. at Waggoner Pool.
