INDIANAPOLIS – The IU Indianapolis men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams turned in another dominant performance at home on Saturday, sweeping all three opponents in a four-team meet against Southern Indiana, Evansville and Valparaiso. The Jaguar men rolled to victories of 228–65 over Valpo, 234–65 over USI, and 216–81 over Evansville, while the women posted wins of 185–108 over Valpo, 203–96 over USI, and 224–68 over Evansville.
IU Indy opened strong in the 400-yard medley relays, sweeping both events. The women’s A-relay of Jenna Williams, Chloe Yerkes, Addy Hirsbrunner, and Luca McGee touched first in 3:56.38, while the men’s A-squad of Grayson Tidwell, Logan Kelly, Hugo Arteaga, and Nathan Rariden clocked 3:20.90 to take the win.
In distance events, Luke Parsons and Youssef Magdy went 1–2 in the men’s 1000 freestyle (9:32.76 and 9:37.72), while Bella Tufts took second in the women’s race (10:53.57). Parsons later returned to win the 500 freestyle in 4:35.93, with teammates Magdy and Jack Gallob close behind in the top five. On the women’s side, Hirsbrunner led the way in the 500 free with a time of 5:02.77.
IU Indy continued to dominate the middle-distance events. Kyrah Kittleson placed second in the 200 free (1:57.59) while Jack Gallob and William Gorman finished second and fourth, respectively, in the men’s race. In backstroke, Aubrey Hollis and Williams placed third and fourth in the 100 (59.54, 1:00.60), while Tidwell took runner-up in the men’s 100 back (50.22) and Seth Cannon was fifth (52.00). Yerkes went on to win the 200 backstroke in 2:06.46, with Williams and Hollis also in the top five.
The Jaguars shined in breaststroke as well. Victoria Surdyka claimed the 100 breast in 1:07.25, and Zach Drotar took the men’s title in 56.76. In the 200 breast, Kelly continued his stellar day, winning in 1:58.48, while Sadie Leininger (2:28.30) and Ali Fitzgerald (2:29.16) both placed inside the top five for the women.
In butterfly events, IU Indy swept the men’s 200 fly with Carson Szotek (1:51.30), Isaac Wilson (1:51.69), and Rariden (1:53.24) going 1–3 while Hirsbrunner, Hill, and Stemper finishing top three in the women’s race. Drotar added another win in the 400 IM (4:06.12), and Hirsbrunner captured the women’s 400 IM title in 4:30.06.
The sprint events were highlighted by McGee, who won the 50 free (24.18) and 100 free (52.44), with Kittleson taking third in the 100. For the men, David Niemiec was runner-up in the 50 (21.18), and Arteaga placed second in the 100 (46.68).
IU Indy divers also dominated their boards. Alaina Heyde won both the 1-meter (252.20) and 3-meter (275.55) competitions, while Sebastian Otero swept the men’s diving events, scoring 370.05 on 1-meter and 394.35 on 3-meter. Blake Vanderjeugdt and Evan Butcher rounded out the top three on both boards.
The meet concluded with a statement from the Jaguars’ relay teams. The women’s 400 free relay (McGee, Kittleson, Stemper, Hirsbrunner) finished second in a close race at 3:33.58, while the men’s A-relay (Drotar, Rariden, Keaton Barwick, and Tebeest) took first in 3:04.81.
With a complete team effort across every discipline, IU Indianapolis continued to assert itself as one of the premier programs in the region, sweeping all team matchups in decisive fashion. The Jags will next travel to Chicago to face UIC on Saturday, October 25.

Another early-season meet and another program record has fallen by the wayside, as Valpo swimming freshman Gabriel Corkran (Avondale Estates, Ga./Druid Hills) surpassed the previous standard in the 500 free in Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon. A four-team meet hosted by IU Indy scored as three dual meets, the Valpo women picked up victories over Evansville and Southern Indiana, while the men made it a clean sweep of the Screaming Eagles.
How It Happened
- Corkran moved atop the program’s all-time chart in the 500 free in his third collegiate meet, touching the wall in 4:37.62 to edge the previous record by .06. The freshman, who finished in second in that event, also moved into eighth in program history in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.20 and paced Valpo as well in the 100 free with a time of 46.95.
- On the women’s side, the Beacons had three individual event wins and a relay victory to secure a pair of meet wins. Sophomore Ally Unruh (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) kicked off the winning swims by taking top honors in the 1000 free with a time of 10:38.72, and later moved up into eighth place in program history with her time of 4:44.53 in the 400 IM.
- Freshman Audrey Morgan (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) came home in 1:53.65 in the 200 free to earn the event victory, placed second in the 500 free with a time of 5:06.98 – fifth-fastest in program history — and moved into seventh in program history in the 50 free with a time of 24.39.
- Junior Sophie Schoch (Medina, Ohio/Medina) took first place in the 100 back with a time of 58.89, improving upon her fifth-best time in program history. Schoch also paced Valpo in the 200 back with a second-place showing, covering the distance in 2:06.78.
- The Valpo women closed the meet with a win in the 400 free relay, moving into fourth in program history with a time of 3:33.37 thanks to the quartet of freshman Una Dizdarevic (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park), senior Caroline Gorski (Melrose Park, Ill./Leyden), Schoch and Morgan.
- While she didn’t pick up an event win, Dizdarevic had a pair of the best times in program history in her individual events. The freshman came home as the runner-up in both the 50 free (24.22, improving upon her fourth-best time in program history) and the 100 free (52.74, second-fastest in program history).
- Junior Maria Jose Suarez de la Fuente (Mexico City, Mexico/ITESM Preparatoria Tec Campus Santa Fe [Bethel]) now ranks ninth in program history in the 400 IM after completing the race Saturday in 4:44.76.
- Sophomore Sam Smith (Manhattan, Ill./Rosary) paced Valpo in both the 200 fly (2:17.78) and the 100 fly (1:02.42), while senior Natalie Eaton (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) led the way for the Beacons with a time of 1:07.62 in the 100 breast and junior Roxanne Adams (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico/Homeschooled) was the first Valpo swimmer to touch the wall in the 200 breast with a time of 2:27.82.
- Valpo’s first relay of the day also cracked the program’s record book, as the 400 medley relay team of Schoch, Eaton, junior Kailyn Benoit (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) and Dizdarevic moved into eighth in program history with a time of 4:00.06.
- The women earned a 186-94 win over Evansville and a 153-140 win over Southern Indiana, while falling 185-108 to IU Indy.
- On the men’s side, beyond Corkran’s record-setting swim in the 500 free, the Beacons had two other individuals and both relays move into the record books Saturday.
- Senior Matthew Mantz (Spokane, Wash./Mead) moved up to sixth all-time in the 1000 free, touching the wall in 9:58.53, while freshman Caleb Smesko (Green, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) won the 200 back with a time of 1:51.60, good for third in program history. Smesko also paced the Beacons in the 100 back with a time of 50.53.
- Both of Valpo’s relays moved into eighth place in program history in the respective events — the 400 medley relay quartet of Smesko, sophomore Carson Parker (Silver Lake, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley), senior Timothy Mai (St. Johns, Fla./Creekside) and freshman Evan Curran (Golden, Colo./Golden) stopped in the clock in 3:25.78, while the 400 free relay team of Curran, freshman Isaac Dinari (Houston, Texas/Memorial), Corkran and senior Anthony Martin (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) came home in 3:07.79.
- Individually, Parker earned a second-place finish in the 100 breast with a time of 57.34, while also pacing the Beacons in the 200 breast with a time of 2:09.62.
- Martin led Valpo’s contingent in the 200 fly (1:55.81), Dinari paced the Beacons in the 50 free (21.54), senior Garrett Hoppman (Midland, Texas/Midland) was the team’s best in the 100 fly (51.62) and senior Jackson Oostman (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) led the way for Valpo in the 400 IM (4:11.58).
- The men picked up a 165-128 win over Southern Indiana, while they narrowly fell to Evansville, 141-138, and dropped a 228-65 decision to IU Indy.

Valpo will take a weekend away from competition before hosting its home opener at the Valparaiso Aquatic Center Saturday, Nov. 1 in a dual meet versus Saginaw Valley State.

Indianapolis, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Women’s Swimming and Diving wrapped up its meet against Indiana University Indianapolis, the University of Evansville, and Valparaiso University with a record of 1-2 Saturday afternoon.
The Screaming Eagles came out on top against Evansville with a 181-105 victory. This marked their third consecutive win against the Aces dating back to last season. USI narrowly fell to Valparaiso, 153-140. IU Indy came out victorious, 203-96.
Freshman Hannah Pryor impressed throughout the day. She tied the USI record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:08.10. Pryor also finished second in the 100 backstroke after a 58.95 run. She was a member of the third-place Medley Relay team, along with sophomore Emma Gabhart, sophomore Elizabeth Ketcham, and junior Caiya Cooper. The team clocked a 3:59.20.
USI swimmers had several top-three finishes on the day. Senior Mattilynn Smith finished third in the 1000 freestyle with a 10:58.75. Cooper grabbed third in the 200 freestyle, clocking 1:58.29. Gabhart recorded three second-place finishes: the 100 backstroke (1:07.25), the 200 backstroke (2:27.09), and the 400 individual medley (4:38.45).
The divers were magnificent in the meet, as sophomore Anna Bunnell finished second in both the one and three-meter dives, recording a 247.10 in the one-meter and a 2:47.65 in the three. Sophomore Gabbie Meier grabbed two top-five finishes, placing fourth in the three-meter (233.40) and fifth in the one-meter (215.20).
The Eagles are back in action on October 25, when they face off against Indiana State University and get a rematch against Evansville at the Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Indiana.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Men’s Swimming and Diving falls to Indiana University Indianapolis, the University of Evansville, and Valparaiso University Saturday afternoon at the IU Natatorium.
The Screaming Eagles came the closest, 153-144, to a win against UE. IU Indy gained the greatest margin of victory of the day against the Eagles, 234-65, and USI fell to Valpo 165-128.
In the Eagles’ only first-place win of the meet, sophomore Stokes Knight swam a 20.77 in the 50 freestyle. Knight also saw a top 10 finish in the one-meter dive event with a score of 190.10.
Senior Lane Pollock scored 265.7 to tie for fourth place in the one-meter dive competition. He also came in fourth place in the three-meter dive contest with a score of 270.05. Above him in the three-meter event was junior Nathan Deputy, with a score of 283.00.
Junior Sam Smith finished fourth in the 1000 free contest (9:59.25), and he also saw a fourth-place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:54.24).
Freshman Garrett Gabhart finished fourth in the 100 butterfly (51.59), improving on his time from the Indiana Intercollegiate by nearly a full second.
The Eagles are back in action on October 25, when they face off against Indiana State University and get a rematch against Evansville at the Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Indiana.

INDIANAPOLIS – Saturday’s dual meet at the IU Natatorium saw the University of Evansville men’s swimming and diving team earn a pair of victories to highlight the day. The men defeated Valparaiso by a score of 141.00-138.00 while edging out USI by a 153.00-144.0 score.
IU Indy defeated the men by a score of 216.00-81.00. The women’s scores finished with Valpo taking a 186.00-94.00 win while USI finished with a 181.00-105.00 decision. The Jaguars completed the day with a 224.00-68.00 win over the Purple Aces.
UE’s men completed the day with multiple victories beginning with Joseph Capo’s effort in the 200-free. He bested the competition with a time of 1:41.63. Carer Bolling and Tyler Jackson took 8th and 9th in the race finishing just over five seconds behind Capo. Capo took 6th place in the 500-free (4:41.62) while Wyatt Gallas was just behind him in seventh (4:50.48).
Logan Tenison recorded a victory in the 100-backstroke with a time of 50.18. His time was 0.04 in front of the competition and marked the 9th-best time in program history. Later, he took second in the 200-back posting a time of 1:53.20. Michael Pruett was victorious in the 100-free. A strong time of 46.21 came in 0.47 in front of the runner-up. Sammy McCall placed 8th in the race while taking 9th in the 50-free (21.71) and 8th I the 100-free (48.08).
Alex Willis, Chris Rector, Tenison, and Pruett earned a 3rd-place finish in the 400-medley relay. Their 3:25.72 was just over a second behind the runner-up. Bryce Ryan and Luke Cook registered top tens in the 100-free. Finishes of 10:13.34 and 10:22.21 saw them finish 6th and 7th, respectively. Willis had a strong race in the 100-fly. Swimming a 52.01, he took 6th. Rector picked up a top five in the 400-IM. His time of 4:18.00 gave him fifth.
Pruett, McCall, Capo, and Tenison took part in the 400-free relay. Combining for a time of 3:07.55, the group finished in third place.
Evansville had a strong race in the 100-breaststroke. Jesse Montano and Robert Hargrove came home in 4th and 5th, respectively. Their times finished at 58.24 and 58.64. Rector and Montano picked up top five finishes in the 200-breaststroke. Rector was second (2:09.03) while Montano placed fourth (2:11.68).
Claire Mewbourne and Evelyn Chin earned victories for the women. Mewbourne took top honors in the 200-breaststroke recording a time of 2:26.95. Chin picked up the win in the 100-fly with a time of 57.82. She bested her nearest competition by 1.27 seconds. Chin added a finish of 9th in the 200-free as she recorded a 2:03.24. Mewbourne followed her victory with a top five in the 100-breaststroke. An effort of 1:07.72 saw her finish fourth.
In the 400-medley relay, Evansville took second place as Jillian Giese, Grace Moody, Chin, and Mewbourne swam a 3:57.09 to finish less than one second behind IU Indy. Moody swam a 2:08.05 in the 200-backstroke on her way to a 3rd place effort. Mia Pesavento, Moody, Mewbourne, and Chin came in third place in the 400-free relay. They finished in a solid 3:38.50.
Hannah Krings picked up a top ten in the 1000-free. She took 7th place with a finish of 11:27.00. Jaley Hamilton placed 10th in the 100-back swimming a 1:02.69 before taking 9th in the 100-free (56.58). Jillian Giese rounded out the top ten in the 50-free with her finish of 25.42. Giese followed with a finish of 7th in the 400-IM. She swam a 4:48.28 in the event. In the 500-free, Luana Carrotta and Krings took 9th and 10th place, respectively. Their times finished at 5:33.49 and 5:35.82.
Leah Gardner took 9th place in the 3-meter dive registering a score of 180.45. She was followed by Eden McRoberts who finished 10th with a 170.45. The duo repeated their finishes in the 1-meter as Gardner finished 9th (183.60) and McRobets was 10th (174.70).
