American Women, George Mason Men Claim Victories At Potomac Relays

WASHINGTON – The women’s team captured the outright win for the first time since 2019, and the men’s team placed third for the first time since 2021 as American University swimming & diving hosted the annual Potomac Relay Invitational on Friday against Georgetown, George Mason, Howard, Mount St. Mary’s, and Mary Washington. The Eagles captured two wins and two second-place finishes out of nine events on their way to the win for the women.

Notable

  • The women’s team, winning outright with 450 points after tying for the win last season, earned wins in the 3×100 breaststroke relay and the 2×500 freestyle relay. They placed second in both the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay.
  • On the men’s side, the Eagles took second place in the 2×500 freestyle relay.
  • Teaming up for the women’s breaststroke relay win in 3:20.58 were sophomore Marin Priddy, junior Jordan Carpentieri, and sophomore Grace Gilbert.
  • Junior Kate Williams and sophomore Demetra Bicos were the winning pair in the 2×500 freestyle relay with a time of 10:25.08.
  • The women capped the day with a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, as Priddy, freshman Lucy Penna, sophomore Piper Crosby, and Gilbert went 1:37.15.
  • The men’s second-place event finish came from sophomore Luke Martens and freshman Ryan Sommerstad who went 9:43.47 in the 2×500 freestyle relay.
  • The men’s 200 freestyle relay team of sophomore Charlie St. Louis, junior Connor Florence, freshman Cade Kidani, and freshman Gavin Shifflett placed fifth in 1:27.02 to close out the day.
  • On their way to a team win overall on the men’s side, George Mason set a new pool record in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:23.56.

  • On Friday, Oct. 3, the Eagles will host UMBC in a dual meet at 6 p.m. The meet will be streamed live on YouTube.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The George Mason men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams opened the 2025-26 season on Friday at the Potomac Relay Invitational, hosted by American University.

Facing teams from American, Georgetown, Howard, Mary Washington and Mount St. Mary’s, the Patriots’ men’s team took first place with 504 points and the women’s team finished fourth with 388 points.

The Patriots’ men’s team took the top spot in six events and finished with 504 points.  Georgetown was second with 426 points, followed by American (380), Mary Washington (354), Howard (314) and Mount St. Mary’s (292).

The George Mason women’s team placed second in four events and finished with 388 points.  American was first (456), followed by Georgetown (418), Howard (416), George Mason (388), Mount St. Mary’s (316) and Mary Washington (302).

On the men’s side, the combination of graduate student Agustin Rasche, seniors Tate Anderson and Jett Lee and junior Ian Rodgers took the top spot and set a pool record in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:23.56).  The time posted by Rodgers in the 3×100 backstroke was also a pool record.

In the 500-yard freestyle relay, juniors Alex Crown and Cody Scifres along with Rasche and Rodgers touched the wall first (4:05.30).

In the 800-yard freestyle relay, juniors Anthony Garono and Ryan Serbia, along with Crown and Scifres placed first (6:56.12).  Crown and Scifres also combined to win the 2X500 freestyle relay (9:38.53).

Rodgers, Lee and Garono teamed up to win the 3X100 butterfly relay (2:32.11).

In the 400-yard medley relay 4×100 IM, senior Jack Chapman, Anderson, Serbia and Garono combined for a first-place finish (3:31.69).

Rodgers, Chapman, Anderson and Rasche teamed up to place second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:32.08).  Anderson, Serbia and Chapman took second in the 3X100 breaststroke relay (2:52.55).

On the women’s side, senior Peyton Brehmer, junior Sarah Dichak, and freshmen Alexis Brazier and Madelyn Abel took second in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:50.75).

In the 400-yard medley relay 4×100 IM, senior Angelina Zeidan, juniors Megan Anderson and Kristen Ivey along with Abel touched the wall second (4:05.26).

In the 2X500 freestyle relay, Dichak and Brazier combined for a second-place finish (10:37.86).

In the final event of the day, junior Casey Tingen, Brehmer, Abel and Tingen combined to take second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:37.01).

Sophomore Greta Mott, senior Ainsley Toews, Zeidan and Brehmer placed third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.49).  Senior Gracie Sweeney, Brehmer and Anderson combined to take third in the 3X100 butterfly relay (2:59.50).

In the 500-yard freestyle relay, sophomore Carly Bates, Brehmer, Tingen and Mott were third (4:41.06).

The Patriots host Old Dominion on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Aquatic and Fitness Center in Fairfax, Va.
