For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Indiana University has snagged Summer Junior Nationals finalist Lylah Theriac for their recruiting class of 2026.
“I am beyond excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Indiana University! I want to start by thanking my family, friends, coaches, and teammates who have supported me throughout this journey. Your constant encouragement, belief in me, and countless sacrifices have meant more than words can express. To my coaches—thank you for pushing me to be not only a better athlete, but also a better person. I am incredibly grateful for your guidance and for helping me grow both in and out of the pool. Choosing Indiana University was an easy decision for me. From the outstanding coaching staff and competitive swim program to the incredible academic opportunities, I truly believe this is the perfect place for me to thrive. I am excited to represent such a prestigious program and join a team of amazing athletes who share the same passion and drive. I can’t wait to see what the future holds as a Hoosier! #GoIU ❤️🤍”
Theriac, an Indiana native, attends Mooresville High School and swims for the Mooresville Area Swim Team.
Swimming for Mooresville, Theriac swam at the IHSAA Girls State Championships, where she was the bronze medalist in the 100 fly in a personal best time of 54.08 in prelims and 54.45 in finals. She also finished 4th in the 200 IM at 2:02.10.
At the 2024 Winter Junior Championships, Theriac swam the 50 free (23.70), 100 free (50.86), 100 back (56.90), 100 fly (55.13), and 200 IM (2:05.13). She swam a similar lineup at the long course Summer Junior Nationals meet in July and August, competing in the 50 free (26.90), 50 back (30.44), 50 fly (28.32), 100 fly (1:01.96). She also swam the 200 IM, touching in 2:16.47 to finish 9th and win the ‘B’ final at the meet.
Theriac’s SCY Best Times
- 100 fly- 54.08
- 200 fly- 2:02.36
- 100 back- 55.06
- 200 IM- 2:01.61
- 400 IM- 4:27.14
Indiana competes in the Big Ten, where they finished 2nd at last year’s conference championships, scoring 1255.5 points to Ohio State’s 1338.5.
Theriac’s biggest impact on the Indiana team comes in the 200 IM, where her best time would have ranked her 9th on the team last season. If she drops under 2:00, though, she would quickly move up to 5th or 6th overall on the team. She has a year in high school still, and last season, she dropped from 2:07.89 to 2:01.61. If she has even a fraction of that improvement this year, she could be one of the top IMers on the IU team.
She will join the Hoosiers in the class of 2030 with Kayla Han, Paige Downey, Eva Rottink, Lilly Rogers, Anne Dickinson, Elizabeth Eichbrecht, and Zoe de Fabrique.
