Day 5 Prelims Heat Sheet

Mona McSharry of Ireland did not swim prelims of the 200 breaststroke on Thursday morning. McSharry was the #5 seed in the event with an entry time of 2:22.49 that she swam in June 2024 at the Mel Zajac International meet. It took a 2:26.82 to make semifinals tonight in Singapore.

McSharry already raced the 100 breaststroke in Singapore where she finished 11th in semifinals. She was the top seed coming out of prelims with a 1:05.99 but was slightly slower with a 1:06.33 in semifinals. It took a 1:06.17 to advance to the final. Her time from prelims would have been 5th in the final as well.

Last summer, McSharry swam to a bronze medal in the 100 breaststroke at the Paris Olympics with a 1:05.59. Her bronze medal marked the first swimming Olympic medal for Ireland since 1996.

She swam a personal best 1:05.51 in semifinals in Paris, a time that still stands as her personal best and Irish record. She also competed in the 200 breast in Paris as she advanced to semifinals finishing 11th in a 2:24.48.

She is scheduled to swim the 50 breast later this week where she is the #14 seed. The 50 breast is scheduled for Saturday morning.

As of publishing, it is unknown why McSharry did not race in prelims of the event.

What’s up with all the scratches? Can’t anyone handle a full program anymore?

I think she’s sick or injured. Her 100br was bad

Her 100 was not even close to bad. She added ⅓ second from heats to semis – nothing.
She took a load of time off after Paris so to still go sub 66 was excellent.
