Australia Maintains Worlds Medal Table Lead Through Day Two

2025 World Championships

Although world record holder Gretchen Walsh did her part to give the United States its first gold of these World Championships, the nation of Australia remains atop the overall swimming medal table due to its double relay titles from last night.

Summer McIntosh‘s 200m IM victory this evening was added to her previous gold in the 400m free, while teammate Mary-Sophie Harvey collected 200m IM bronze to position Canada as the 2nd-best nation through two days of competition.

The U.S. is ahead of China, France and Germany who comprise the remainder of the top tier of countries early on at these championships.

Looking ahead to tomorrow based on tonight’s semi-finals, the U.S. will miss out on an opportunity in the men’s 100m back since the nation doesn’t have anyone who made it past the first round.

Kate Douglass does hold the top spot in the women’s 200m breaststroke, however and the stars n’ stripes have both Regan Smith and Katharine Berkoff racing in tomorrow’s final of the women’s 100m backstroke.

Finally, Luke Hobson and Gariel Jett have the chance to collect golden hardware for Team USA in the men’s 200m free.

But China, France and others have their own competitors ready to rumble in an effort to continue to move up the medal table rankings in Singapore. We’ll see how things transpire on day three.

So this is where NBC change their medal table to rank by total medals instead of total golds so the USA can be at the top even though by the end of the meet they will likely have more gold then Australia 🤣
