Cheung Chi Kit Nicholas Breaks Hong Kong National Record in Men’s 100 Breaststroke Semifinal

Cheung Chi Kit Nicholas set a new Hong Kong record in the men’s 100 breaststroke, beating the former record holder and qualifying 7th for the final in the process.

Cheung has knocked almost a second off his seed time today. He came into the meet at 1:01.28, more than three tenths behind record holder Mak Sai Ting Adam‘s 1:00.95.

In prelims, Mak lowered his record to 1:00.80 to qualify 6th and Cheung barely squeaked into the final at 1:01.29 for 14th.

In the 1st semifinal, Cheung took 4th from lane 1, touching in 1:00.50 to knock three tenths off the record Mak set in the prelims and finish 7th in the event to earn his spot in tomorrow’s final.

Mak ended up finishing 9th, despite also coming in under his own record time in 1:00.57.

Cheung will get another chance to lower the record even more tomorrow.
