Sean Kao was a swimmer at Arizona State, where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in exercise science. In 2019, he started Aquatic Sports Performance out of his parents’ garage in hopes of being able to help athletes with their out-of-water training. Over the last 6 years, it has developed into helping over 150 athletes in and out of the water reach their potential.
Last month, one of ASP’s athletes, Santo Condorelli, qualified for the US World Championship team in the 50 free. Sean discusses his humble beginnings, lifelong learning mentality, and his journey in helping Santo get to Singapore.

What an interesting and inspiring conversation. So refreshing to hear about the innovative training, both physical and mental, and even the business thinking too. Best of luck to Sean in achieving his vision!
Sean is who BH wants to be
Grassi is with Kao too? I wonder how Hawke feels about all this…
I mean, what else were they going to do?
Hawke has always been a festering wound, but now he’s a contagious cancer. Anybody who trains with him will be subjected to 16x as much scrutiny, including USADA target testing. How could you stay?
All of these guys mentioned were w Hawke quite recently (a few weeks before US Nationals). Sean has ‘coached’ Santo and company for a few months at most. Claiming any type of credit for Santo or any of these guys is ridiculous. Santo happened to be using a pool that Sean happened to be swimming masters at.
Fine, I’m sure. Brett was posting stuff with them before and I’m pretty sure they live close by where Brett was. I’m sure he handed them off smoothly
Sean seems to have a great perspective on both sides of training (water & dryland) I have a feeling we will see him rise in our sport…coaching side
Nice interview Sean!
Two torn shoulders is devious
Ngl that’s such a flex
Sean is one of the best. Has something special going on with ASP
What country are we in again? With Santo I always forget
