Nation’s Capital Swim Club’s Cassidy Bayer knocked off a National Age Group record tonight at NCSA Junior Nationals, going 53.30 to sneak under the old mark of 53.36 set by Beata Nelson in 2013.
Interestingly enough, Nelson was in the heat with Bayer, taking second, just ahead of the NCAP 14-year-old. Bayer went out in 25.14 and came home in 28.16 in the race, surrounded by a number of big names including Nelson, event winner Janet Hu, and Stanford commit Simone Manuel, whom Bayer touched out for third place.
This is Bayer’s second short-course NAG, adding to the 200 fly mark she set at the Tom Dolan Invitational back in December.

I watch her develop for 2 or 3 years now and she’s on pace to be the next US butterfly star. And I’m a fan of that young girl since the famous swimswam photo from last summer at the US nationals when she swam for the first time under the minute in the 100 fly.
It’s refreshing to see great reactions like that from swimmers.
I watched the medal ceremony on the live stream of these NCSA’s and she was very funny and smiling. It makes a change from many swimmers who don’t look very happy, even on a podium!
