FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Despite a rainy afternoon, the Nova Southeastern Sharks Swim teams put together a great performance against Barry and Florida Atlantic. The Men’s team took down FAU for the first time in school history, winning 141-121, while also claiming victory over Barry 191-69. For the Women’s team, they defeated FAU 132-130, and Barry 221-35.

(Women’s)

  • The group of Maria GoncalvesHannah MontgomeryKristina Orban, and Maya Esparza captured first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.38.
  • In the 100 breast, Claire Gass placed first with a time of 1:05.10. Placing second with a time of 1:05.20 was Montgomery.
  • Esparza secured first in the 50 free with a time of 23.74. Zsofia Kurdi took third with a time of 24.57.
  • With a time of 51.66, Orban took first in the 100 free.
  • In the 200 breast, Montgomery claimed victory with a time of 2:21.00. Gass placed third with a time of 2:25.40.
  • Orban secured another first place finish, this time in the 100 fly with a time of 56.34.
  • With a time of 2:07.02, Emilia Ronningdal captured first in the 200 individual medley.
  • Orban, Kurdi, Esparza, and Ronningdal were victorious in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:29.18.

How it Happened
(Men’s)

  • Luca Alessandrini secured first in the 1000 free with a time of 9:38.37.
  • In the 100 back, Gustav Henriksen took first with a time of 50.96.
  • With a time of 21.35, Mateus Ribeiro placed first in the 50 free.
  • Henriksen secured his second first-place finish of the day, claiming victory in the 200 back with a time of 1:50.74.
  • In the 500 free, Alessandrini captured another first place finish, securing the win with a time of 4:35.90.
  • Michael Kent brought home the victory in the 100 fly with a time of 50.80. Joshua Parry took second with a time of 50.85.
  • Henriksen continued his stellar day with a victory in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:53.58. Following behind him in second was Kent with a time of 1:55.09.

FORT LAUDERALE, Fla – The Florida Atlantic men’s and women’s swimming teams wrapped up their third meet of the season on Friday afternoon, a tri-meet hosted by Nova Southeastern and featuring Barry.

The Owls finished second out of three teams on the men’s side and second on the women’s side. The women totaled 130 points with the men finishing with 112.

Men

  • The day began with an Owl victory in the men’s 200 medley relay. The team of Peyton MingBrett SasserDaniel Laureyssens and Logan Thornsberry accumulated a time of 1:33.03
  • Timo Paisley began his busy day with a victory in the 200 free (1:39.54) and was victorious again in the 100 free in a time of 45.58
  • James Shevchenko continues to impress this season, winning the 200 fly in a time of 1:52.20
  • The Owls also took the win in the 400 free relay thanks to the team of Andrew Billitto, Thornsberry, Laureyssens and Paisley, recording a time of 3:03.35
  • The freshmen continued to make waves with Akant Durur, finishing second in the 1000 free (9:44.19) and 500 free (4:37.46)
  • In the 100 back, Peyton Ming finished second (51.34)

Women

  • Cica Carvalho continued her winning ways, taking the win in the 1000 free in a time of 10:25.72
  • Talitha McEwan had herself a day full of victories beginning with a win in the 200 free (1:53.04). Her winning ways continued with a 500 free win in a time of 5:07.12
  • Transfer Aura Vilarrasa had two victories today, her first of the season. She started the day winning the 100 back (58.52) and added another win in the 200 back (2:06.55)
  • The highlight of the day came in the form of an Owls sweep in the 200 fly with Dolores Margni, Carvalho, and Lotta Palsi going 1-2-3
  • The 400 free relay team took second to wrap up the day, with Bry BellileLudo Pavia, McEwan and Margni recording a time of 3:32.41
  • Amelia Robertson finished second in the 100 back (59.04)
  • Bellile also finished second in the 50 free in a time of 24.32

The Owls will be competing next Friday, Oct. 18, hosting their home opener at the FAU Aquatic Center versus Keiser. Admission is free. Action begins at 3 p.m. with live results being found on the Meet Mobile app.

DAVIE, Fla. — The Barry Buccaneers swimming teams opened the 2024-25 season against Nova Southeastern and Florida Atlantic in a tri-meet at the NSU Aquatic Center on Friday evening.

The mens team lost by a score of 191-69 against NSU and 196-64 against FAU.

The women’s team lost by a score of 221-35 against NSU and 210-39 against FAU.

The meet consisted of 28 events, 14 on the men’s side and 14 on the women’s. The events consisted of the 200-medley relay, 1000 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 backstroke, 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, 200 IM and lastly the 400 freestyle relay.

HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN):

The first Bucs’ relay team of Alexandr Pomozov, Balazs AmentElijah Fields and David Szlobodnyik placed 6th in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:37.27.

The second Bucs’ relay team of Roland NagyBrooks BlackertRobin Tatar and Chris Paige placed 8th in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.18.

Balazs Ament placed first in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 57.43 and 2:05.59, respectively, and earning nine points in each.

HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN):

The Bucs swam valiantly, with a relay team of Evelin ZbiskoChloe SkeltCelina Myers and Paige Maclean they finished 8th in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:56.45.

The second Bucs relay team consisting of Kate RutledgeAva McCarthyTaryn Will and Kauri Parsons placed 9th in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:00.61.

Kate Rutledge placed 6th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.31.

Evelin Zbisko placed 6th in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:13.18.

NEXT UP:
The Bucs will head to Boca Raton, Fla. in two weeks to take on Lynn in a dual on Oct. 25 at 11:00am.
