The Nation’s Capital Swim Club boys took down a pair of National Age Group Records on the final night of racing at the Futures Championships in Richmond on Sunday, downing the boys’ 15-18 and 17-18 marks in the 400 medley relay.
The quartet of JT Schmid, Lleyton Arnold, Rian Graham and Josh Howat combined for a time of 3:41.91, taking down 15-18 record of 3:42.14 held by the Aquajets Swim Team the 17-18 record of 3:42.71 held by the TAC Titans. Both previous records were set last year.
Schmid and Arnold are both 18, while Graham and Howat are 17.

Schmid’s lead-off split of 56.36 was right on what he went in the individual 100 back (56.30), and then Arnold’s flying split of 1:01.88 was quicker than the PB he set in the 100 breast of 1:02.18. Graham was more than eight-tenths under his newly-minted PB of 53.94 with his 53.1 fly leg, and then Howat closing in 50.57 was significantly faster than he was individually at the meet (52.19).
Graham was the difference-maker for NCAP in terms of nabbing the record, as his 53.10 leg was 1.75 seconds quicker than the Aquajets’ split.
Schmid (UNC), Arnold (FSU) and Graham (Louisville) are all headed to the NCAA next season, while Howat is apart of the stacked Virginia class beginning in the fall of 2025.
