IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly swimming and diving awards.
SWIMMING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Johanna Gudmundsdottir, Senior, SMU
Gudmundsdottir won two individual events each against Texas A&M on February 2 and Houston on February 3. Against Texas A&M, she won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.95 and the 100 freestyle in 49.50. The next day against Houston, the senior won the 50 free in 22.95 and the 100 free in 50.17. She also placed second in the 100 free (49.75) and third in the 50 free (22.82) against Texas on February 9.
DIVING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Ruska Lehtonen, Sophomore, FIU
Against FGCU on February 3, Lehtonen won the 1-meter springboard event with a total score of 255.98 and finished second in the 3-meter event with 252.45 points.

IRVING, Texas (SMU/The American) – SMU senior swimmer Johanna Gudmundsdottir was named the American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week, as released by the conference on Tuesday.
This is the senior’s first conference weekly honor of the season.
Most recently, Gudmundsdottir placed in the top three in all four events she competed in against Texas for senior day on Friday, Feb. 9.
In the 200 free relay, she combined with Isabella Bedoya, senior Indra Vandenbussche and Lucrezia Napoletano for the first place finish, hitting the pad in 1:31.43.
Gudmundsdottir later finished the 100 free in 49.75 for second.
In the previous two meets against then-No. 11 Texas A&M and Houston during the weekend of Feb. 2, Gudmundsdottir played a key role for the Mustangs.
She earned two wins for SMU against A&M. The Iceland native touched first in the 50 free with a time of 22.95. The 100 free saw another win from Gudmundsdottir, finishing in 49.50.
In Houston, she won the 50 free for the second time that weekend, touching the wall in 22.95. The Mustangs won the meet, including winning nine of the 13 events.
Gudmundsdottir also won the 100 free with a time of 50.17. She aided Jimena Leal, Maddy Lewis, Valentina Becerra to finish the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.87, less than three seconds shy of a B-cut against the Cougars.
