INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI swim and dive team concluded the regular season with a sweep over Washington University on Friday, February 2. Five Jaguars recorded two wins in the victory with Samantha Lee, Ben Rocks, Emmaleigh Zietlow, Alaina Heyde and Sebastian Otero all earning two wins each.
On the women’s swim side, Lee and Zietlow lead the way. Freshman Lee earned a first-place finish in the 1000 free, dropping eight seconds at 10:13.57. She then dropped five seconds in the 500 free, breaking five minutes at 4:59.27. Emmaleigh Zietlow earned wins in the 200 IM (2:02.33) and the 200 back (1:59.90).
Other first-place finishes for the women’s team came from Zoe Hendrickx (200 free – 1:57.06), Addisyn Newman (50 free – 24.78), Lillian Brandt (200 fly – 2:03.49) and Victoria Surdyka (100 free – 52.96).
Five different swimmers on the men’s team earned a first-place finish with Ben Rocks leading the way. Freshman Rocks earned first in the 50 free with a time of 20.93 and first in the 100 free with a time of 46.25.
Other first-place finishes for the men’s team came from Nathan Rariden (1000 free – 9:17.26), Youssef Magdy (200 free – 1:40.20), Isaac Wilson (200 IM – 1:51.96) and Jack Gallob (200 back – 1:46.09).
Both the men’s and women’s swim teams earned first-place finishes in the 400 medley relay.
On the boards, Alaina Heyde and Sebastian Otero swept the competition. Heyde earned the 1-meter win with a score of 290.78 and the 3-meter win with a score of 276.83. Otero earned the 1-meter win with a score of 355.05, then broke his own program record in the 3-meter with a score of 423.38.
The men’s team earned the win with an overall score of 127 to 95 while the women’s team defeated Washington with a score of 143 to 93.
With the win, the Jags conclude their regular season and will now make the final preparations for the Horizon League Swim and Dive Championships. The Jags will have home pool advantage as the Championships will be at the IU Natatorium on February 14-17.
