NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women’s swimming and diving team is off to a strong start at Kiphuth Exhibition Pool and in Ivy League meets. The Bulldogs defeated Columbia 201-99 in the Ivy and home opener.
Yale is 2-0 overall on the young season.
STRONG START
The Bulldogs had the top three finishers in the diving, the first event of the meet.
DOUBLE WINNERS
Caroline Riggs and Ava Franks both won two events to lead Yale. Riggs captured the 500 (4:57.28) and 1000 (10:04.04) freestyles, while Franks was victorious in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.84) and 200 individual medley (2:04.14).
OTHER WINNERS
Other winners for Yale were Quinn Murphy in the 100 backstroke (56.95), Jessey Li in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.41), Lilly Derivaux in the 200 butterfly (2:01.80) and Vivian Weng in the 100 butterfly (54.74).
RELAY SUCCESS
Yale had the top two finishers in the 200 medley relay and also won the 400 freestyle relay.

“Tonight was a great team win with contributions from all,” said Jim Henry, The Robert J.H. Kiphuth Head Coach of the Bulldogs. “We got off to a strong start and kept the momentum going. Going 1,2,3 with diving in the first event was a catalyst for some terrific performances.”

The Bulldogs will spend next weekend at the SMU Invitational in Dallas.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Columbia women’s swimming and diving team traveled to New Haven to take on Yale on Friday evening in the squad’s first road dual meet of the 2023-24. The Bulldogs earned the victory at Kiphuth Exhibition Pool, defeating the Lions 201-99 to improve to 2-0 on the season. Columbia falls to 1-1 on the year.
Emily MacDonald continued her dominance in the sprinting events, winning both the 50-free and 100-free with times of 23.54 and 50.82, respectively.
Aziza Ganihanova won the 200-back once again, clocking in with a time of 2:01.28.
As for the divers, Alice Diakova shined in the 1m, finishing second with a score of 295.43, which was her best score so far this season and her second straight zone qualifying score.
“An extraordinary event with the highest level of competition,” Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. “Remarkably all six divers scored above the zone score of 265, but Alice was spectacular and Macy was the model of confidence and consistency.”

“We competed well tonight,” Head Coach Diana Caskey said. “The depth and really solid swims from both teams was impressive. Emily MacDonald and Aziza Ganihanova had the wins, but every event featured three strong swims for the Lions!”
Columbia will look to bounce back next weekend when the Lions will host Harvard on Friday, November 17. The meet is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. at Uris Natatorium.
