BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After two weeks of rest, Cal State Bakersfield men’s and women’s swim and dive picked up right back where they left off, this time against Pacific at CSUB’s Hillman Aquatics Center. The women dominated in a 198-93 lapping victory, while the men also protected home advantage with a 158-136 win. Both teams now improve to 2-1 on the season.
Vili Sivec continued his streak of wins, coming out of this one with three individual victories that included sweeping the Butterfly events. Kyle Ney surpassed her seed time with an unofficial first place finish of 1:56.13 during the 200 Free. Along with that brilliant result, Ney also amassed three total victories on the day while leading the women to a crushing defeat of Pacific. Arthur Schneider and Chelaine Van der Westhuizen also took two victories each while helping their teams perform well in both individual and team events.
As we now pass the halfway mark of the season, the `Runners will eagerly train for nearly four weeks in anticipation of the annual Big Al Invitational on December 1-3. Vili Sivec will also be focused on attempting to qualify for the 2024 World Championships, so stay tuned!

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Pacific men’s (2-1) and women’s (2-3) swim teams completed the second day of a two-stop road trip as both teams took on CSU Bakersfield, where the men out scored the Roadrunners in the swimming events, 136-126, but dropped the meet when the Bakersfield divers were added to the scoring, 158-136 win. The women captured multiple first-place finishes but fell to the Roadrunners, 198-93. The teams competed at Fresno State the previous day.
“That was our goal,” head coach Katelyne Herrington shared, “To beat Bakersfield without diving scores, and we succeeded.” She added, “Last year, we lost by one point without diving, so we are getting stronger, so next year we have an even better chance to win the meet.”
The men opened the day with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay and capped off their dynamite performance with a first-place finish in the 400 free relay.
Graduate student Dylan Parente and sophomore Ethan Cole led the charge for the Tigers, earning crucial points for Pacific to edge out the Roadrunners. Parente captured first in the 50 free with a 21.1, while earning third in the 100 free with a 45.99 finish. He later claimed another top finish in the 200 free, coming in at 1:41.54.
Cole earned two first-place finishes for the Tigers in both the 100 and 200 breast. He clocked a 58.1 in the 100 before claiming a 2:07.04 in the 200.
On the women’s side, the goal was to capture multiple first-place finishes over a competitive Bakersfield team. Junior Paige Sondgeroth took on the challenge and had a fabulous day of racing, taking first in all three of her events Saturday afternoon.
In the 50 free, Sondgeroth clocked a 24.61 finish. Returning with another first-place finish in the 100 free, she came in with a 52.54. Her final race of the day was the 200 IM, where she came in with a 2:08.58 to claim her third top finish of the day.
The Tigers return to action in just under two weeks for the three-day Utah Tech Winter Invite.
