Bryant Women Edge Binghamton In Nail-Biter, Bearcats Triumph Over Bulldogs In Men’s Meet

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women’s swimming and diving team took down Binghamton by a score of 155-145 for their first win of the season.

Led by Regan Lord’s three first place finishes, the Black and Gold racked up nine wins in the meet to get the overall victory.

Notes and Notables

  • Diver Megan Beasley took first place in the 1m with a score of 265.85 on Friday.
  • Natalia Kuipers started the Bulldogs off on Saturday with a win in the 1000 yard freestyle. She clocked a 10:25.33 in that race. Makayla Pearce was right behind her in that race with a time of 10:29.72 for the second place finish.
  • Regan Lord just missed the pool record by less than .5 seconds with her first place finish in the 100 yard backstroke. She put down a 55.72 in that race.
  • Lord also took first in the 200 yard backstroke with a 2:04.72. Freshman Jacqui Fox backed Lord up in the race with a 2:06.35 to grab second place.
  • Lord’s third win of the day came in the 200 yard IM in which she raced a 2:10.05.
  • Senior Julia Stenhard joined in on the fun and earned first place in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.29. She also took first in the 100 yard butterfly. She laid down a 57.47 in that race.
  • Marcella Figueroa picked up right where she left off last season by taking the top spot in the 50 yard freestyle with her time of 24.14.
  • To finish out the day the relay team  laid down a 1:37.08 to get the win in the 200 yard freestyle. In a tight race, Figueroa was able to pull out a strong anchor leg to help the Bulldogs get the victory. That relay team consisted of Jill Carline, Stenhard, Charlee LeGallais, and Figueroa.
  • The crowd at Chace Pool was one of the largest for a home meet in program history. The energy and support of the fans helped to power Bryant to victory.

Bryant hosts Providence College for friends and family weekend next week. Diving will match up with PC on Thursday (Nov. 2nd) at the Brown University facilities while swimming is at the Chace Pool on Friday (Nov. 3rd) at 5:00 pm.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men’s swimming and diving fell to Binghamton in their first meet of the regular season by a score of 184 – 116.

This was the first time that the Bulldogs hosted an America East meet at the Chace Pool and they did so in front of an electric crowd.

Notes and Notables

  • Sophomore diver Christopher Buonocore placed first in both the 1m and 3m competitions with scores of 289.65 and 294.84. These were personal bests for Buonocore.
  • Junior Leo Luna placed first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:36.32. He beat the second place finisher by nearly seven seconds.
  • Griffin Lajoie took the top spot in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:52.55.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Swimming in their second dual meet in as many days, Binghamton set nine pool records in a dual meet at Bryant on Saturday at the Chace Athletic Center Pool. The Bearcat men won 184-116 while the women were beaten 155-145 in a meet that came down to the final 200 free relay.

Senior Henry Shemet played a part in breaking four of the pool records. He swept the 200 free (1:41.56), the 100 free (45.56) and the 200 IM (1:52.91). He also anchored the 400 medley relay team that included junior Elijah Lanfear, senior Eric Kroon and senior Mark Crocker and clocked a time of 3:19.11.

Lanfear, meanwhile, also won three individual events. He set a pool record in the 100 back (49.53) and also captured the 100 fly (48.63) and the 50 free (20.77).

The Bearcats’ final men’s pool record was turned in by the 200 free relay team of seniors Sandon Karinsky and Liam Murphy, sophomore Liam Preston and freshman Cullin Cole. They recorded a winning time of 1:23.44.

Senior Eric Kroon was a double-winner, sweeping the 100 breast (56.42) and the 200 breast (2:05.43). Preston won the 500 free (4:38.47) and senior Jake Vecchio was first in the 200 fly (1:52.70).

On the women’s side, pool records were turned in by senior Courtney Moane in the 100 breast (1:04.06), Lauren Kuzma in the 200 breast (2:21.37) as well as the 400 medley relay team of Moane, sophomore Olivia Philbrick, freshman Haley Nowak and senior Maddie Hoover (3:47.47).

Hoover went on to win three individual events, taking top honors in the 100 free (52.79), 200 free (1:53.50) and 500 free (5:08.11). The Bearcats’ other individual winner was sophomore Elizabeth Tirado, who was first in the three-meter event (244.30).

Binghamton returns home to take on Canisius this coming Saturday at 1 p.m.
