UC Davis Claims Senior Day Victory Over Fresno State

Davis, Calif. — Capping off a Senior Day meet that saw 16 student-athletes get recognized for their efforts and careers as an Aggie, UC Davis was able to capture their fourth straight meet win over Fresno State, 188-112.

The 16 seniors for the Aggies – Amelia ChoDani FasanJessica LarsonAnna Lee, Taylor Scabby, Sydney Wren, Eloise Eggs, Caroline EckelKendall MenardJulie KwanMaggie MalloyOlivia GreenbergJay Jay EatonAshley Ma, Deanna Agah, and Sophia Sebastian – were honored before the meet.

Being in command of the meet from the jump, UC Davis got out to a quick lead after taking home the first event, the 200 yard medley relay. Behind the efforts of a couple seniors in Eckel, and Fasan, the other two members of the relay included Nicole Chong and Katie McLain as they posted a time of 1:41.52, winning the race by nearly four seconds.

Other top finishes for UC Davis during the swim portion of the meet included Elle Motekaitis winning the 200 yard freestyle, Fasan racing her way to the top time in the 100 yard breaststroke, McLain in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle, Emma Hermeston in the 200 yard backstroke, Haley Hoefer in the 200 yard breaststroke, Sam Rhodes during the 500 yard freestyle, and Olivia Greenberg in the 200 yard IM to round out the individual winners. The final event of the day gave the UC Davis fans in attendance a lasting image of victory to end their last home meet as the Aggies 200 yard freestyle relay team composition of Anna LeeDani FasanChristy Douglas, and McLain picked up a one-second margin of victory with their 1:33.98 time.

For the diving portion, Sydney Wren posted the best scores in both the 3 Meter and 1 Meter events to give the Aggies some huge points during the meet, as well as a memorable performance in her final meet at Schaal Aquatics Center.

Carrying the momentum from four-straight meet victories and a successful Senior Day, UC Davis will have one more tune-up against Pacific on Jan. 28 in Stockton before heading to Utah to compete in the MPSF Championships in February.

DAVIS, Calf. – The Fresno State swimming and diving team earned four wins on Saturday afternoon in a dual loss to UC Davis at the Schaal Aquatics Center.

Fresno State (3-3) dropped the dual, 188-112 as the Bulldogs got first-place finishes from Samarah Melia (1000 Free), Athena Clayson, (100 Back), Mackenzie Hutler (200 Fly) and Julia Matney (100 Fly).

In addition, the ‘Dogs collected eight runner-up finishes in seven individual events and the 200 Free Relay team of Eleonora TrentinWiktoria Dabrowska, Melia & Hutler clocked a time of 1:34.58.

The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season next Saturday hosting San Jose State for Senior Day at 12 p.m.
