Charlotte Crush Rips 51.01 100 Back for New 13-14 NAG Record at Winter Nationals

2022 WINTER JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS – EAST

Charlotte Crush is the new owner of a girls’ 13-14 NAG record after blazing a 51.01 in the 100-yard backstroke final on Friday night at Winter Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The 14-year-old Lakeside Swim Team standout took .27 seconds off her previous best from prelims to sneak under the former NAG record of 51.03 set last year by Levenia Sim. Crush’s performance this morning had moved her up to No. 4 all-time in her age group.

Crush was out in 24.69 and came home in 26.32, touching more than half a second ahead of second-place finisher Erika Pelaez (51.62).

Given the other swims that happened tonight, I saw this and thought “Meh.” I cannot believe that thought actually passed through my brain, when a girl born in 2008 went a 51.0 in the 100 back

I’m having the same mental sensation when I look at article headlines wondering – wait, is that fast? The insane times so many swimmers are putting up across SCY/SCM/LCM no longer mentally compare to what “fast swims” were back when I was competing. I feel like I can’t quickly put results in context any longer!

Exactly, well said. I often feel like I’m reading about another sport when I see these times. I mean, a 51 sec.100 free for would have been a fantastic women’s NCAA time back in my day.

The list names she just passed helps out in context how crazy this is for a 14 year old.
