Bronx, N.Y. – (November 5, 2022) – The Fordham swimming & diving team was back in action on Saturday afternoon, as the Rams hosted the Georgetown Hoyas at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
The Fordham women kept their unbeaten season intact with a 196-104 win over Georgetown, while the men dropped their first meet of the season by a 159-131 score.
For the women, the Rams won 13 events on the day, led by Leire Martin, who won both the 100 (57.33) and 200 (2:03.17) backstroke events, while leading off the winning 200 medley relay (1:44.58) with Emma Shaughnessy, Jessica Zebrowski, and Zoei Howard.
Zebrowski was also a multi-event winner, taking the 100 (56.27) and 200 (2:04.59) butterfly events, while also being a part of the winning 400 freestyle relay with Howard, Megan Morris, and Alison Lin.
Lin, Howard and Shaughnessy each won an individual event on top of their relay wins. Howard took first in the 100 freestyle in 53.19 seconds, while Shaughnessy was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.50. Lin was then first in the 200 freestyle event in 1:54.31.
The day of winners finished up with Ainhoa Martin and Millie Haffety, as Martin won the 200 breaststroke (2:16.77) and 200 individual medley (2:04.60) with Haffety sweeping the diving events with score of 273.68 (1M) and 311.25 (3M).
On the men’s side, Fordham captured first in seven events, led by the duo of Christian Taylor and Paris Raptis.
Taylor won the 100 (49.32) and 200 (1:51.55) backstroke events, while Raptis took first in the 100 (48.97) and 200 (1:49.67) butterfly. Both swimmers were also a part of the winning 200 medley relay with Vitalis Onu and Alexander Shah, who took the top spot in 1:31.21.
Taylor also joined Shah, Noah Althoff, and Onu to win the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:03.97.
The Rams’ final event winner on Saturday was Alex Wilhelm, who placed first in the 100 freestyle in 46.95 seconds.
Fordham will next be in the pool, November 18-20, when they take part in the Bucknell Invitational.

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University swimming & diving teams split with host Fordham on Saturday with the men’s team earning its fifth-straight win (159-131) and the women’s team dropping to the Rams (196-104).

WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophia Ribeiro posted the top time in the 1,000-yard free, touching the wall at 10:21.66.
- Corey Moon and Ribeiro added a 1-2 punch in the 500 free, posting respective times of 5:04.04 and 5:04.81.
- Ines Lovato and Tia Thomas went 1-3 in the 50 free, scoring times of 24.47 and 25.03, respectively.
- Swimmer Genevieve Youngman and diver Wynter Bramao each picked up a second-place finish in the respective 100 fly and 3m diving events.
- The team of Allie Sanchez, Breuer, Youngman and Lovato also earned a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay as did the squad of Erin Hood, Ribeiro, Sanchez and Samantha Hagberg in the 400 free relay.
- Hagberg and Ryan Evangelista went 2-3 in the 200 free as did Sanchez and Maddie Haley in the 100 back, and Angelica Reali and Erin Hood in the 200 fly.
- Breuer, Hood and Sanchez added third-place marks in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 back, respectively.
MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
- Jack Brearton (2:05.06), Tomo Nozaki (2:07.22) and Bailey De Luise (2:10.15) swept the 200 breast.
- Jack Januario added a first-place time of 1:42.52 in the 200 free.
- Michael Baldini and Connor Brennan finished with top-two times in the 50 free, posting marks of 21.50 and 21.73, respectively. Nicholas Pezzella (1:52.52) and Brearton (1:52.96) packed a 1-2 punch in the 200 IM.
- In the 1m dives, freshman Hriday Parekh picked up the win (281.85) and teammate Joe Hofman earned second (203.85). The Hoya newcomer also won the 3m dives with a score of 304.43.
- Brearton (9:46.02) and Andrew Babyak (10:05.38) went 1-3 in the 1,000 free as did De Luise (57.96) and Liam Ryan (59.21) in the 100 breast, and Jellig (4:39.94) and Will Connolly (4:49.22) in the 500 free.
- The team of John McEachern, De Luise, Baldini and Brennan earned a second-place mark in the 200 medley relay as did Brennan, Baldini, Josiah Lauver and Sean Percin in the 400 free relay.
- McEachern and Jellig went 2-3 in the 100 back as did Nozaki and Ansen Meyer in the 200 fly and Ryan and Januario in the 200 back.
- Baldini and Percin rounded out the respective 100 fly and 100 free podiums with third-place marks.
UP NEXT
The Hoyas will take next weekend off before heading up to Massachusetts for the Terrier Invitational on November 18-20, hosted by Boston University.
