BROOKLYN, N.Y. — It was a quick turnaround for LIU men’s swimming after competing at Iona on Friday night, but that didn’t matter on Saturday morning.

The Sharks hosted Saint Peter’s in their first home meet of the season, taking down the Peacocks, 309-114.

“I’m extremely pleased with both of our meets today,” head coach Bobby Smith said. “We were dominant today. This team looks better every week, and we plan on keeping that pattern going throughout the season.”

In dominant fashion, LIU had the first-place finisher in all but two events.

Lincoln Greseth finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10.28:49, 35 seconds in front of second.

Dani Chocano Fernández, Jose Alfonzo and Marcelo Chauvet were the top-three in the 200-yard freestyle.

Freshman Emilio Garcia won his first collegiate event, the 100-yard freestyle, with a final time of 48.60.

Ethan Law, Pascual Del Cid and Dodik were the top-three in the 100-yard butterfly.

The 400-yard medley relay team of Benny KarlssonStephen TaylorLovro Dodik and Alejandro Pascual Del Cid took first.

LIU returns to action Nov. 5 at NJIT.

BROOKLYN, NY – Saint Peter’s swimming and diving opened up the 2022-2023 season in a meet against both LIU and St. Francis on Saturday. The meet was Head Coach Jose Cruz‘s first with the Peacocks. The team also debuted some new faces on the day.

Top Performances

  • Senior Luke Cillie won both the men’s 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard breaststroke, with times of 58.93 and 2:15.61 respectively. He was the only Peacock to win a race on the day.
  • Graduate Natalie Davis placed third in the women’s 100 yard backstroke, clocking in with a time of 1:00.10. She also placed third in the women’s 50 yard freestyle (26.16) and third in the 200 yard backstroke (2:15.40).
  • Senior Brendan Vieira placed third in the men’s 100 yard freestyle (50.36).
  • Junior Yanis Benadouda placed third in both the 200 yard backstroke (2:07.03) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:10.07).
