WASHINGTON – Georgetown Head Swimming & Diving Coach Jack Leavitt has announced the hiring of diving coach Gerry Dunn on Monday.

“Gerry rounds out our staff on the diving side and I could not be happier to bring him in,” Coach Leavitt said. “His national and international experience as both a competitor and a mentor for USA Diving is going to be extremely valuable for our program. I’m looking forward to seeing the impact he will make on our team.”

Dunn comes to Georgetown from USA Diving where he was Chairman of the National Masters Diving program. He is a certified FINA Technical Official and continues to serve as a diving official for Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA), Big Ten and NCAA Championships. He served on the USA Diving’s Board of Directors and currently is a serving member of USA Diving’s Board of Review.

At the international level, Dunn was the coach of record for USA Diving during International Masters events such as the Pan-American Masters Games (2022) and the FINA World Masters Championships (2017, 2019). The 62-year-old still competes internationally, currently holding the FINA World Championship in the 3-meter synchronized diving with his partner Kelly Winterbottom of DIVELAB in the 50 and older competition. He is also a dual citizen of Ireland and became the oldest senior competitor at the Irish Open Diving Championships in 2018.

The Maryland native is no stranger to the BIG EAST as his daughter Bridie dived for Villanova, where she holds school records in both springboard events, was a three-time BIG EAST champion and earned 2019 Diver of the Year. Dunn also spent four years on the deck at the BIG EAST Championships, covering the event as a reporter.

Dunn graduated from St. Bonaventure University in 1983 where he held school records in both springboard events.

The newest Hoya has been affiliated with the Montgomery Dive Club in Rockville, Maryland for its Masters diving program over the last six years.
