In the prelims of the 200 fly at the 2022 World Championships, Noe Ponti threw down a time of 1:54.75, breaking his own Swiss record of 1:55.05 that was set in the preliminary heats of the Tokyo Olympic Games by 0.3 seconds. He now has 15 of the fastest 200 fly times ever recorded by a Swiss man and becomes the first from his country to get under the 1:55 barrier in the event.
At the Olympics, Ponti finished tenth in the semifinals and failed to advance to finals. His time from today would have been good enough to finish fifth at the meet.
Top 5 Swiss Performances In The Men’s 200 Fly:
- Noe Ponti – 1:54.75 (2022)
- Noe Ponti – 1:55.05 (2021)
- Noe Ponti – 1:55.18 (2021)
- Noe Ponti – 1:55.37 (2021)
- Noe Ponti – 1:55.49 (2022)
Ponti’s front half today was largely responsible for his time drop from the Olympics, as his first and second 50 were both significantly faster than his Tokyo performance. However, his closing speed was slower than it was in Tokyo, especially on the last 50 meters of the race.

Noe is still young (just turned 21 this month) and think he’s got a lot of room to improve. I remember reading an interview of Sarah Sjostrom saying he’s probably the hardest worker she’s ever trained with after they trained together briefly. She said when they would all do 50 back easy for example, he would do fast butterfly for time. I think he has the bronze locked up in the 100fly after his 50.7 for 3rd in Tokyo last year again behind Milak and Dressel. He was
