WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary women’s swimming cruised to a 143-118 victory over Towson Saturday behind nine individual wins in 14 events. The win was highlighted by Missy Cundiff swimming a brisk 22.83 to win the 50 free in fashion, setting a new pool record.
The Tribe started the day off right with a convincing win in the 200 medley relay. Cundiff anchored the relay touching first after terrific swims from teammates, Anna Kenna, Annie Tuttle, and Corinne Davenport. The Tribe team of Kat Vanbourgondien, Ellie Henry, Maura Graff, and Katie Stevenson took second place.
Kenna would out-touch Vanbourgondien as the pair finished one, two in the 100 back. The pair would once again take first and second later in the meet swimming 2:04.81 and 2:07.41 in the 200 back.
Tuttle would follow up with a win, defeating the competition by nearly four full seconds in the 100 breaststroke. Tuttle would also take the nine points for first place in the 200 breaststroke before following up with a win in the 200 individual medley.
In the 100 it would be Stevenson just beating Cundiff to the wall as the teammates finished one, two with times of 51.91 and 52.02 respectively. The Tribe would be sure the meet finished in the same manner it was started, a Green and Gold relay win. Kenna, Stevenson, and Cundiff, along with Elizabeth Intihar would swim to a 400 free relay win with a time of 3:28.82 in the day’s final event.
The Tribe women are now 2-0 after last week’s victory at Johns Hopkins. Cundiff has set a pool record in the 50 free in each of her first two meets this season.
Up next: The Tribe will be at home next weekend for a meet with UMBC. The two squads will get things started in the Rec Center at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary men’s swimming fell 172-89 to Towson Saturday afternoon at the Campus Rec Center. Graham Hertwweck and Micah Lowe took home individual wins in the Tribe’s first home meet of the season.
Hertweck took the Tribe’s first individual win of the day, swimming a blistering 20.86 to capture first place in the 50 free. The sprinter would just be edged out, securing a second place finish in the 100 free.
Lowe, a freshman, swam a 1:52.71 to touch out the opposition in the 200 backstroke. It was Lowe’s first event win of his career. Lowe was just six tenths of a second from sweeping the backstroke competitions, clocking in at 51.70 in the 100 for second place.
The Green and Gold began the outing with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay. Lowe and Hertweck were joined by Cole Younger and Noah Fields, swimming to a 1:33.37 time. Younger would earn more points for the Tribe with a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke.
Fields and Gavin Lamoureux would finish second and third respectively in the 200 butterfly, and Lamoureux would finish second in the 100 yard version of the event with a time of 50.84.
Distance specialist Owen Miller finished the 500 free in 4:4912 to earn second place and finished the day teaming up with Hertweck, Diego Cruzado, and Eugino Massari to place second in the 400 free relay.
Next up: The Tribe will be at home next weekend for a meet with UMBC. The two squads will get things started in the Rec Center at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Behind 12 total victories, the Towson University men’s swimming team, which was without its divers for the meet, cruised to a 127-89 win over host William & Mary Saturday afternoon at the Tribe’s Recreation Center.
Sophomore Brian Benzing landed a pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke, stopping the clock in 55.29 and continuing his unbeaten streak in the event. The Tigers won both relay events as well, including a five-second victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The win halted a five-meet winning streak for the Tribe against the Tigers. It was Towson’s first win over William & Mary since Oct. 11, 2014 and first in Williamsburg since Nov. 7, 2003.
How it Happened
- Towson opened its afternoon with a 1 minute, 31.53 second win in the 200-yard medley relay, led off by Evan Bota and followed by Benzing, Trey Adkins and Ryan Baldino. The Tiger won the relay by two seconds.
- Ryan Bookstein won the 1000-yard freestyle by four seconds, clocking a 9:59.54 win. Teammate Patrick Flint took second in a time of 10:03.62.
- Towson took the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle, paced by Michael Fazio’s 1:42.79, with Coby Ockert in at 1:45.22 and Brendan Farrar with a third-place time of 1:45.91.
- Bota picked up a win at 100 yards in the backstroke, winning by just sixth-hundredths of a second in 51.64 over William & Mary’s Micah Lowe, in at 51.70.
- It was a first and third for Towson in the 100-yard breaststroke as Benzing put his name in the record books with his 55.29. Benzing won the event by nearly three seconds, Tanner Fatta taking third with a 59.42.
- Nick McClure dropped a second from his 200-yard butterfly time, scoring a 1:52.49 to win the event. Baldino took second in the next event, the 50-yard freestyle, touching in 21.12.
- Out of the break, Baldino returned in the 100-yard freestyle, getting to the wall first in a time of 46.02, winning by nearly a full second. TJ Bearor took third at 48.06.
- Reed Sells and Fazio went two-three in the 200-yard backstroke, with just a second between them. Sells finished in 1:52.81 while Fazio went in 1:53.88.
- Noah Diacumakos won the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:05.01, a two-second victory for the junior. Fatta took third with a 2:07.53, just three-tenths from second.
- In the 500-yard freestyle, Towson again took first and third, with Drew Munson collecting first in 4:47.64, a two-second win. Bookstein finished third at 4:51.15.
- Benzing doubled on the day with a win in the 100-yard butterfly, taking the win with a 49.29. McClure touched third at 51.28, a half-second improvement from his previous season best.
- Diacumakos also added a second win, capping the 200-yard IM with a 1:54.98, out-touching his teammate, Flint, who took second in 1:55.14.
- Towson finished its dominant win with a 3:03.02 in the 400-yard freestyle win with Benzing, Fazio, Adkins and Baldino. The group of Ockert, Bearor, Luke Schwar and Bota finished third at 3:08.87, just a half second from second place.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The Towson University women’s swimming team, sans divers, fell on the road at William & Mary 143-118 at the Tribe’s Recreation Center Saturday afternoon.
Towson (2-2) had another strong showing from its distance team as Meagan Clark won both the 500 yard freestyle and the 200 yard freestyle. Karlee Carminati notched a win in the 1,000 free, dropping another seven seconds from her season best. Towson swept the 100-yard butterfly with Hailey Ritter, Samantha Casolo and Ava Enriquez.
How it Happened
- Carminati picked up Towson’s first win of the day in the 1,000 yard freestyle, touching in a season-best 10 minutes, 21.51 seconds. Bridget Thomas, a true freshman, tacked on a season best as well with a 10:31.11 for third place.
- Towson picked up a first and third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with Clark winning in 1:53.23 and Enriquez touching in 1:56.99.
- Julia Ali grabbed third in the 100-yard backstroke (59.09) as Katie Nunez (1:07.19) and Tiffany Matulis (1:07.36) took second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke.
- Casolo grabbed first in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:07.20, outpacing second place’s Grace Tramack of William & Mary but well over a second.
- Towson picked up big points in the 50-yard free, taking second, third and fourth in the heat, lead by Maddie Mince at 24.49. Parker Schulz came in third with a 24.65 while Ritter nabbed fourth at 24.75. It was Schulz’s first time swimming the event this fall.
- Shay Walker picked up a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.04 before Suzannah Mills took the same spot in the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:08.27. Matulis took second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.59.
- In the 500-yard freestyle, Towson took first, second and fourth with Clark winning at 5:02.05, dropping nearly a second from her previous season best. Carminati was in second with a 5:04.03, a five-second improvement, while Thomas touched in 5:06.46, another personal best.
- Towson closed the gap with the top three spots in the 100-yard butterfly, catching a win from Ritter with a 56.93. Casolo (57.89) and Enriquez (58.36) finished second and third, respectively.
- Mills snagged second in the 200-yard IM, pulling within a stroke of first place with her time of 2:10.96. The Tribe’s Annie Tuttle won the event in 2:09.88.
- The final event of the day, the 400-yard freestyle relay, saw Towson take second with the group of Ritter, Clark, Mince and Nunez finishing with a 3:33.61. It was the first time this season the Tigers swam that event.

- After putting in three-straight weekends of action, The Tigers take a week away from competition.
- Towson’s next event is set for Nov. 6 with a crosstown rivalry meet at UMBC.
