Hannah Trainer from Portland, Oregon announced her commitment in July to continue her academic and athletic careers at The University of Akron beginning for the 2022-2023 school year.
“I couldn’t be more proud to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim for the University of Akron. Swimming in college for a great team is a dream come true. I want to thank my family, friends, and teammates for the love and tremendous support in my studies and swimming career thus far, and to my coaches past and present for helping me get to this point, especially Coach Franz, who has coached and worked with me the past two years to get me to the next level. I look forward with lots of excitement to swim for Akron and Coach Peresie. Go Zips!”
Trainer swims for Tualatin Hills Swim Club out of Beaverton, OR. In March, she achieved numerous best times including the 100 freestyle (51.73) as well as the 100 (56.36) and 200 (2:06.03) butterflies while at an official team intrasquad meet.
This summer, Trainer had a very successful July with many long course best times. While aat Austin Sectionals, she achieved best times in the long course 100 (59.89) and 200 (2:10.22) freestyles as well as the 100 (1:03.09) and 200 (2:22.12) butterflys. She also earned a ninth place finish in the 100 butterfly and a 16th place finish in the 200 butterfly.
Trainer just began her senior year this fall at Sunset High School in Portland, OR.
Her best short course times are:
- 100 freestyle: 51.73
- 200 freestyle: 1:52.44
- 100 butterfly: 56.36
- 200 butterfly: 2:06.03
- 400 IM: 4:33.19
The University of Akron is a public university located in Akron, Ohio. The school is a member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Akron is known for having a fast butterfly group, as the team has won the 100 butterfly individual conference title since 2016 and the 200 butterfly since 2018. The school is also home to All-American butterflyer Sarah Watson.
The Zips were conference runner-ups in what was a close battle with Buffalo for the conference title at the 2021 MAC Championships. Trainer is just off of the 2021 MAC scoring times. It took a 51.60 in the 100 freestyle, 1:52.30 in the 200 freestyle, 56.11 in the 100 butterfly, and 2:04.33 in the 200 butterfly to make it back in the ‘B’ final.
Trainer will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026 along with Camryn Leydig, Elle Couture, Callie Parkes, and Rebecca Reid.
