New Zealand Breaststroker Phoebe Harris Commits to Florida International

Phoebe Harris of Auckland, New Zealand has committed to Florida International University’s class of 2024. Harris graduated from Pakuranga College secondary school at the end of 2019. She trains year-round with the club team Howick Pakuranga.

Harris was a four-event winner at 2019 New Zealand Secondary Schools Swimming Championships in September. She earned individual gold medals, and lifetime-best times, in the SCM 50 breast (32.93), 100 breast (1:10.23), and 200 breast (2:30.18). She also swam breast on the winning mixed 200 SCM medley relay and anchored the second-place mixed 8×50 SCM free relay. In October, she competed at the New Zealand Short Course Championships and placed 6th in the 17-18 50 breast, 6th in the 100 breast, 5th in the 200 breast, 14th in the 200 IM, and 9th in the 400 IM. Last June she medaled at the 2019 AON New Zealand Open Championships, notching a 2:34.83 for 3rd place in the 200 LCM breast.

Harris will join Floridians Adrianna Barone and Sophie Hampson on the FIU roster next fall. The Panthers won their 6th consecutive Conference-USA title in February, sweeping the top 3 spots in the 100 breast and the top 2 in the 200 breast. Harris would have been an A-finalist in both events. She will overlap with both Sara Gyertyanffy and Delaine Goll, the respective conference champions in the 100 and 200.
