UNLV standout Ogi Maric won a handful of events as the Rebel men and women earned victories in their home invitational to close out the fall. Maric’s first win of the meet came in the 200 IM, where he got out to the early lead ahead of teammate Hayden Cornellison (1:49.37) to win in 1:47.61.
Maric dominated the 200 free, posting a 1:36.61. Teammate Christopher Mykkanen, who took 2nd in that 200 free (1:39.36), won the mile in 15:27.60. Maric’s final win came in the 100 IM, where he outswam Cal Baptist’s Jacob Leahy (50.35) on the back half with a 50.06.
Ivan Zukov took a pair of wins for the Rebels. He came from behind to catch Cal Baptist’s Joe Molinari in the 400 IM, posting a 3:54.53 to Molinari’s 3:55.98. Zukov later captured the 200 breast title in 2:00.24.
Among the double event winners on the women’s side were UNLV’s Kate Afanasyeva and Carissa Armijo. Afanasyeva took her first win in the 100 back, putting up a 54.01 in finals. She was slightly faster in prelims, however, with a 53.79. She led from start to finish in the 100 IM, winning in 56.08.
Armijo turned in a 4:51.32 in the 500 free to win by body lengths. In the 200 fly, she battled with teammate Teneka Ash, taking the edge on the front half to win 2:00.74 to 2:01.19.
Cal Baptist got a couple of men’s wins with Sean Foster and Quinn Birtles. Foster won the 100 breast in 55.32, while Birtles won the 200 fly in 1:47.69. The Baptist women got the win in the 1650 free, as Rebecca Oviedo turned in a 16:49.61.
