Andrew Swenson Announces Verbal Pledge to Purdue for 2020-21

Andrew Swenson, a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Bedford North Lawrence High School in Bedford, Indiana, has announced his verbal commitment to the in-state Boilermakers for 2020-21. He’ll join up with Coleman Modglin, Ethan Shaw, Griffin Seaver, and Kevin O’Dare in the Purdue class of 2024. Swenson swim with the national team at Lawrence County Aquatics and specializes in backstroke and IM. As a junior at the 2019 IHSAA Boys’ State Championship he came in 9th in the 100 back (50.59) and 21st in the 200 IM (1:54.56). At the Section meet leading up to States, however, he notched lifetime-best times of 49.59 and 1:52.73 in those events. A month later he swam PBs in the 200 back and 400 IM at Indiana LSC Senior State Championships, placing 6th in the 100 back, 11th in the 200 back, 5th in the 200 IM, and 15th in the 400 IM.

Purdue lost its top two backstrokers (seniors Joseph Young and Timothy Barth) to graduation at the end of 2018-19. Kristian Komlenic is in his final year of eligibility this season but Swenson will overlap two years with Nikola Acin and three with Jack Smith, Blake Ratliff, Michael Juengel, Kal Findley, and Brady Robinson.
