Indiana State Opens 2018-19 Slate Friday vs. Illinois-Chicago

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State swimming and diving head coach Josh Christensen has released the 2018-19 women’s swimming and diving schedule.

The Sycamores will open the 2018-19 season by hosting Illinois-Chicago on Oct. 5 at the Vigo County Aquatic Center at 5:00 p.m. ISU will hit the road the next day to compete at Olivet Nazarene in Bourbonnais, Ill. at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Indiana State will return home and host two home meets at the Vigo County Aquatic Center the following week. On Thursday, Oct. 11 ISU will square off against Illinois at 7:00 p.m. and then the Sycamores will welcome Illinois State at 6:00 p.m. the next day.

Two weeks later on Oct. 26, ISU will head to Cincinnati, Ohio for a meet against Xavier beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Sycamores will leave Cincinnati and head directly to Louisville, Ken. for a meet against Rose-Hulman and Bellarmine at 1:00 p.m on Oct. 27.

On Nov. 3, Indiana State will host another home meet at the Vigo County Aquatic Center against in-state rivals Evansville and Valparaiso, starting at noon. Then, from Nov. 16-18 the Sycamores will travel to Cleveland State to compete at the Magnus Cup.

After returning home from the Magnus Cup, ISU will host their Relay Meet on Dec. 1 at the Vigo County Aquatic Center beginning at noon. Once winter break comes to an end, Indiana State will head east to Springfield, Ohio for a meet against Wittenberg and Cumberlands at 2:00 p.m. on Jan. 12.

The week after competing in Ohio, Eastern Illinois will host the Sycamores for a meet on Jan. 18 at 6:00 p.m. in Padovan Pool. In their final meet before the MVC Championships, ISU will host Ball State and Southern Illinois on Jan. 26 at 1:00 p.m.

The Missouri Valley Conference Championships, hosted by Missouri State, will be held from Feb. 20-23 at the University of Missouri.

Last season, the Sycamores took fourth at the championships and Blanca Saez-Illobre became the first Sycamore to win an MVC title at the swimming and diving championships, taking the 200 breaststroke crown on the final day of competition. Three Sycamores earned First-Team All-MVC honors, including Jacquie Price, Marlene Pavlu Lewin and Saez-Illobre. An additional six Sycamores earned Honorable Mention All-MVC honors.

This will be Josh Christensen’s first season as the head coach of Sycamore swimming and diving after previously serving as the head coach of Division II power, Fresno Pacific University.
