For many of the World’s and Europe’s best swimmers, the Euro Meet is every year the start into a new and exciting swim season. This year’s edition features Sarah Sjöström (SWE), Adam Peaty (GBR), Laszlo Cseh (HUN), Marco Koch (GER), Franziska Hentke (GER), Philip Heintz (GER), Kliment Kolesnikov (RUS), Bruno Fratus (BRA), Shinri Shioura (JPN), Ben Proud (GBR), Jazmin Carlin (GBR), Hannah Miley (GBR), Duncan Scott (GBR), James Guy (GBR), Ross Murdoch (GBR) and so on.
The Luxemburgish team is lead by Raphael Stacchiotti, Julien Henx and Monique Olivier, well known “heroes of the GSSE (Games of the Small States of Europe)”. The Games of the small states of Europe (GSSE) are a multi-sport event which is organized by the National Olympic Committees of nine European small states: Andora, Malta, Monaco, Cyprus, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Iceland, San Marino. Luxembourg’s swimmers were very successfull at the last edition in June 2017 in San Marino, Raphael Stacchiotti won a total of 7 gold medals and 2 silver. At the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, he finished 23rd in the 200m IM. Julien Henx also secured 6 GSSE golds in San Marino.
At the world championships this past summer, Monique Olivier finished 22nd in the 400m freestyle. The organizers of the 2018 Euro Meet also announced today that Pit Brandenburger and Ralph Daleiden-Ciuferri will not start, due to illness, as well as the best Luxembourgish Sprinter Julie Meynen. Meynen trains and studies at the Auburn University, USA.
Besides Luxembourg’s top swimmers, promising youngsters will represent the colours of Luxembourg at the Euro Meet: i.e. Bob Sauber, Yann Van Den Bossche, Jacques Schmitz, Rèmi Fabiani, Stephan Vanderschrick, Jacqueline Banky, Maria Perez-Garcia, Yael Hamen-Saieg and Emma Peters and many more.
The FLNS (Fédération Luxembourgeoise de Natation et de Sauvetage) released the names of the swimmers who will appear at D’Coque aquatic center this weekend:

The Euro Meet takes place in the beautiful aquatic centre “d’Coque” at Luxembourg-Kirchberg. The facility has a 50 m, 10-lane competition pool and also a 50 m training pool as well as a 25 m warm-up pool. Luxembourg is a small country in western Europe, it is bordered by Belgium, Germany and France and it is one of the smallest sovereign states in Europe. Nonetheless the city of Luxembourg, which is the country’s capital, is the seat of several institutions and agencies of the European Nation and Luxembourg is the largest private banking centre in the Eurozone.
