Following day 3 finals at the 2016 FINA Short Course World Championships in Windsor, Canada, Team USA has broken the tie with Hungary. The Americans now sit atop the medal table standings with the most golds and the most total medals. They now have 5 total golds thanks to Leah Smith in the 800 free and their winning mixed 200 medley relay squad. Hungary trails with 4 total golds after Katinka Hosszu picked up the 200 back victory tonight.
In terms of total medals, the U.S. is the only country to break double digits so far with 13 total. Tom Shields and Ashley Twichell each contributed a silver to help them rach that mark. Shields was the 2nd place finisher in tonight’s 100 fly behind Chad Le Clos, who broke the World Record to take gold for South Africa. Twichell, on the other hand, helped collect a 1-2 finish for the USA alongside Smith in the 800 free.
