The Missouri State swimming and diving teams took a trip down to Houston over break to train for the upcoming season.
At the end of their trip, the men’s team took on Texas A&M. Since their trip, the Bear men and women have won against Truman State and lost to Drury. A SwimSwam recap of the A&M meet (courtesy James Sutherland) is below:
The Texas A&M Aggies defeated the Missouri State Bears by a score of 125-80, in a dual meet in Texas today featuring only the men’s teams. For live results, click here.
Texas got off to a good start winning the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:18.94, well clear of Missouri State’s second place time of 3:21.48. The Bears bounced back quickly with a big 1-2 finish in the 1000 yard freestyle, with Minki Kang taking the win in 9:21.19, and his teammate Miguel Davila in 2nd (9:27.28). Mateo Muzek of Texas A&M just out-touched Missouri State’s Kacper Cwiek in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 1:41.05 and 1:41.07 respectively.
The 50 free was a big turning point in the meet, as Texas A&M saw their lead increase from 3 after the 200 free (29-26) up to 16 after the 50 (45-29). The Aggies finished 1st through 4th, with the top-3 contributing points. Jacob Gonzales won in 20.73, followed by teammates Brock Bonetti (21.16) and Steven Richardson (21.25).
Missouri State followed up with a 1-2 finish in the 200 IM, with a win from Latvian Uvis Kalnins in 1:49.33, and 2nd place to Artur Osvath in 1:52.22. Brock Bonetti had his second top-3 finish for Texas A&M in the 200 fly, winning in 1:49.47 ahead of his teammate Turker Ayar in 2nd in 1:52.03. Kalnins picked up his second win in three events, taking the 100 free in 45.05 briefly after claiming the 200 IM. 50 free winner Jacob Gonzales was 2nd in 45.30, and Justin Morey made it a 2-3 finish for Texas A&M in 46.15.
Alexandros Theocharid led another 1-2-3-4 Texas A&M sweep in the 200 backstroke, winning in 1:49.45. Jose Martinez claimed the 500 free for Texas A&M over Minki Kang, 4:33.55 to 4:33.80, and Mauro Castillo Luna won the 200 breast for Texas A&M in 1:59.66 over Artur Osvath (2:00.09).
The Aggies put an exclamation point on their meet in the final event, going 1-2-3-4 in the 200 free relay after Missouri State’s A squad was disqualified. Texas A&M A won in 1:23.44.
Texas A&M cruised to the overall points win, 125 to 80.
