Moniek Nijhuis did not manage a European qualifying time despite winning the 50 breaststroke. The Dutch veteran went 31.17, she needed 30.75 to make the London qualifying time. Nijhuis will attempt to qualify in the 100 later in the meet. Her own Dutch record has stood untouched since 2009 at 30.38.
Konrad Czerniak beat out a tough field to take the 50 butterfly in 23.79. Short course world record holder Steffen Deibler could only manage 5th. Dutch 19 year old Matthys Goosen got the better of Frederick Bousquet to take second in the event.
In the IPC 50 butterfly, Marc Evers recorded the fastest and winning time, swimming 27.27 in the S14 to take the title with 965 points.
Mireia Belmonte took another step in her comeback, although the results are far from her best. She won the 400 IM in 4:41.80, which is probably still ten seconds or so from what she’ll need to compete for gold this summer in Rio.
Later on, Belmonte would wrest the meet record back from Martha van Berkel with a 2:08.99 in the 200 fly. Van Berkel was also sharp in second, swimming 2:09.65. Both those times rank in the current world top ten.
Maaike de Waard could not improve on her morning swim and therefore missed London qualifying in the 50 backstroke. Likewise Sebas van Lith could not improve on his morning swim in the 200 breaststroke and therefore did not qualify for Rio.
Lisete Teunissen set two IPC S3 world records, swimming 50.31 in the 50 backstroke and registering 1056 points. Later on she swam 3:26.62 in the 200 freestyle. Liesette Bruinsma set a world record in the same race, swimming 2:29.10 to break the existing record in S11.
Her countrywoman Marlou van der Kulk set a S14 national record in the 50 backstroke as well, swimming 31.55 and coming close to a world record with 989 points. Marije Oosterhuis registered a national record in the S10 200 freestyle in 2:14.13.
Sebastiaan Verschuren finished the night up with an meet record, but came up short of the Olympic qualifying time in the 100 freestyle. The two time Olympian couldn’t make it three when he swam 48.64, he will have another chance later on this weekend in the 200 freestyle.
Robin Neuman missed Olympic qualifying, winning the 200 freestyle in 1:59.53. She needed 1:57.00 to make the cut.
