Aggie Men Improve to a 4-0 Record With Win Over FAU

Florida Atlantic University hosted nationally ranked Texas A&M yesterday in Boca Raton, Florida; where the Aggie men took home victory 137-87. The Aggies were hot off a vctor against Indian River State College on Thursday, and they carried the momentum into Saturdays meet against the Owls. A&M won 12 of the 13 events that were contested on the day, sweeping the top three spots in nine of the events.

Junior Jacob Gonzales from Spring, Texas, whose favorite TV show is The Big Bang Theory and is able to solve a rubric’s cute,  was a double event winner in the sprint free styles: 50 free (20.75), 100 free (45.50).  Last season he competed on the 200 free relay for the Aggies, finishing in a time at the SEC Championships that was good enough to qualify for a NCAA “B” cut. Angel Martinez-,who is in his freshman year at A&M and hails from San Nicolás de los Garza, Mexico  was also a double event winner in the 400 IM (4:01.43) and  200 fly (1:50.09)

Other key event wins for the Aggies included:

  • Miha Beerhat – 1000 free (9:33.71)
  • Mateo Muzek– 200 free (:41.57)
  • Sam Thornton– 1 meter dive (378.45)
  • Alexandro Theocharidis- 200 back (1:51.18)
  • Hunter Funk  – 500 free (4:41.13)
  • Mauro Castillo-  200 breast (2:00.760

Key swims for the FAU Owls included: Matthieu Burtez0 500 free (4:45.26) which was good for second. Also, Nicholas Landi  and Johannes Johnston  finished second and third in the 200 breeat (2:11.61, 2:11.99). Additionally, diver Ryan McIntyre finished first in the 3 meter dive (348.37).

The FAU men will rejoin the women’s team on November 13th for competiiton against Florida Tech. The Aggie men and women will host the Art Adamson Invitational in College station the weekend of November 19-21.
