Kromowidjojo Posts a 51.72 100 Freestyle at Dutch Championships

Olympic champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo took the women’s 100 freestyle at the Dutch Short Course National Championships in a time of 51.72. Kromowidjojo’s time was 44 one-hundredths of a second off of her lifetime best of 51.28, which she posted in 2013.

Her time does beat the world’s leading time of 52.38 posted by Fran Halsall last weekend in Manchester.

Her time would also have ranked in the top five in the 2014-2015 short course world rankings and is a Dutch Championship record.

Marrit Steenbergen set her second youth national record of the meet hitting the wall in a time of 53.35, which puts her third in the current world rankings.

Maarten Brzoskowski, who won the 200 freestyle on the first day of the competition, took the men’s 400 freestyle in a time of 3:42.19. Brzoskowski earsed Pieter van den Hoogenband‘s national record of 3:43.44 which was set in 2002.

Jesse Puts set a new championship record in the men’s 50 freestyle posting a time of 21.68. Emmanuel Vanluchene also set a new championship record winning the men’s 200 IM in a time of 1:56.70.

15 year old Juri Dijstra set a new national age group record in the men’s 100 breaststroke finishing in a time of 1:04.13.

  • Women’s 100 backstroke – Maaike de Waard – 58.81
  • Women’s 200 IM – Majolein Delno – 2:11.59
  • Women’s 50 breaststroke – Anouk Elzeman – 31.05
  • Men’s 100 breaststroke – Timon Evenhuis – 58.78

On paper Campbell sisters and Sjöström are a little ahead in the 100 free for Rio but Ranomi is still clearly a medal contender.

Kromo gettin’ serious for 2016. Gonna be tough to beat those Aussies though.
