Jeremy Desplanches Lowers Own Swiss National Record in Men’s 200 IM

Switzerland’s Jeremy Desplanches lowered his own Swiss national record in the men’s 200 meter individual medley, swimming 1:59.35 in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening in Kazan.

Desplanches, who trains at Olympic Nice Natation in France, was entered with 2:01.18, the previous Swiss record which set at this year’s FFN Golden Tour stop in Amiens, France. Desplanches dropped 1.72 seconds in prelims to qualify 10th through to the semi-finals with 1:59.46.

In the second semi-final of the men’s 200 IM, Desplanches lowered his time to 1:59.35. Nearly 1.2 seconds of his improvement over the last six months have come from the backstroke leg, while both his fly and breast have progressed as well. Below are the comparative splits:

Desplanches was seventh in his heat and 12th overall so will not advance to the final, but his new time will be heretofore the one to beat in the Swiss recordbooks.
