- Sarah Sjostrom, 23.62, 2023

Douglass came into the day with a lifetime best 23.91 from the 2024 World Championships, a time that stood as the American Record as well as outside of the top 25 performances all-time. She now climbs to the top in the event.
This marks Douglass’s first LCM individual World Record. She is slated to swim the event later this summer at Pan Pacs, along with the 100 free, 100 breast, 200 breast, and 50 butterfly.
In addition to Douglass moving up in the all-time rankings, Gretchen Walsh was under the previous American Record that she also held with Douglass. Walsh touched in a 23.78 to become the #5 performer all-time.
Just last night, Douglass told media that she had not been too impressed by her swims so far in Indianapolis, despite wins in the 200 IM (2:07.04) and 200 breast (2:21.65).

USA is suddenly on top in women’s sprinting
More like UVA.
Crazy to think that if Sara Curtis were American OR if Maxine Parker were still competing you could have a gold-medal-winning, world-leading relay made up of only UVA swimmers (Douglass, Walsh, Moesch, Curtis/Parker).
Come to think of it, there’s a non-zero chance that the US has medley relays at some point made up of Stadden/Curzan, Douglass, Walsh, Moesch.
oh ya I went buckwild commenting about those when Moesch went the 51, lol
It’s not that crazy that an international relay would be made up of swimmers from one training center, feels like that might be common outside of the US. The crazy thing with that group is they’d also be capable of setting a world record OR beating an all-star team from the rest of the world.
Swimswam breakdown- no American Records predicted – KD , “hold my Charlottesville Chardonnay”
The Crose from king family
is Kate Douglass the most versatile swimmer in history?
Yes, in the bath tub
That was prolly Dressel. Boy’s got undies.
Oddly enough, both of them not v good at backstroke, comparatively.
Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but do we know if Chuck Norris’ cause of death was kickboxing with Kate Douglass?
Maybe not a conspiracy theorist, but a time traveler with that humor stuck in 2008
Holy Crap!!!
Must be the Pilates
I mean if she’s been doing less kilometers than usual because of the breaststroke, that allows for higher quality speed work for 50 free
One thing to bring up about KD’s versatility is just how different her best few events are. Among other commonly cited super-versatile athletes (MP, Lochte, summer, Marchand), they’re mostly 200/400 IMers that are also dominant at a specific stroke or distances. Douglass is good at 2 different specialties that’s aren’t the 200/400 IM, that both traditionally are dominated by 1 or 2 event swimmers. I just don’t think there’s any other world class swimmer good at such different events without the 200 or 400 IM being their best event. It’s just unheard of
Ya I made this same kinda argument here but one thing I just thought of – Douglass is also much more useful when it comes to international relays.
The only one you can’t put Douglass on is the 800 free, and that’s sorta the only one where McIntosh is a difference maker. That should count for something imo.
(This is wildly skewed due to mixed relays lmfao but hey, those are events!)
We’d all love to see Kate do a 200 free when she is rested. She does fine in the 200 IM and breast, so clearly has endurance for a 200.
Oh sure, but most likely she’d be at the same level McIntosh would be in a 400 relay – probably a solid leg that you might be able to podium with depending on the rest of the relay, but not a world class split on its own.
Kaylee doesn’t have a real elite stroke but 26.8 50 back and 4:28 400 IM is some insane range too.
omg elite second* stroke
Goodness gracious, you guys really know how to rationalize. The comment section is so telltale. Doesn’t matter, they’re all world class, versatile swimmers. No one is better than the other.
Given they all tied this morning, Caeleb Dressel, Maximus Williamson and Grant House are all exactly the same, none of them are better than the others.
I’m sure KD could be well under 2:00 if she wanted to be. She’s basically a standard 50/100 fr/fly sprinter, but with a “one weird trick” where she has a really long, smooth, efficient breaststroke.
Are you forgetting the 200 IM?
Mcintosh has 5 events in top 2 performers all time from 200IM to 800free, solid range.
