Aimee Canny swam to a new South African record in the 200 IM at the Pro Series stop in Indianapolis, touching in a . Canny breaks the previous record of a 2:10.39 set by Rebecca Meder in April 2025. She swam to a South African record in the 200 free during prelims this morning before scratching the event in tonight’s final to focus on the 200 IM.

Canny was primarily faster on the fly and free parts of her race compared to Meder. Compared to her own previous best, Canny saw a huge difference on her breaststroke split.
The 22 year old has notably seen great progression in her breaststroke recently. She swam to lifetime bests in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes in April at South African Nationals with a 1:06.57 in the 100 and a 2:23.61 in the 200. Her breaststroke success translated to long course well after a strong short course yards season with Virginia where she swam a 2:02.97 200 breast in February at the 2026 ACC Championships, a time that sits at as the #5 performer all-time.
The 200 IM marks her 2nd individual long course national record and 6th LCM record overall.
