Women’s 50m Butterfly — Prelims

Top 8 Qualifiers:

  1. Kate Douglass (New York Athletic Club) – 25.31
  2. Claire Curzan (TAC Titans) – 25.88
  3. Caroline Larsen (University of Louisville) – 26.72
  4. Torri Huske (New York Athletic Club) – 26.84
  5. Lily Christianson (NC State University) – 26.90
  6. Erika Pelaez (NC State University) – 26.92
  7. Charlotte Crush (Lakeside Swim Team) – 26.94
  8. Liberty Clark (Indiana University) – 26.99

Louisville’s Caroline Larsen took the first circle-seeded heat with the only sub-27 swim of the heat, clocking 26.72, as the only to make the ‘A’ final from that heat.

In the penultimate heat, Torri Huske notched 26.84 to get the edge over Lily Christianson (26.90), Charlotte Crush (26.94), and Liberty Clark (26.99), with all four advancing.

Coming off her stunning world record in last night’s 50m free, Kate Douglass threw down a near lifetime-best 25.31 to claim the top seed en route to winning the final heat.

Several swimmers were seeded with 100 fly times rather than 50 fly times, making heat two a bit of a sleeper. Claire Curzan clocked 25.88, the only swimmer under 27 in the heat, with that time holding up for the second-quickest of the session.

Erika Pelaez found herself in a similar situation in heat three, clocking 26.92 to qualify sixth overall.

When all was said and done, if you broke 27 seconds, you made the ‘A’ final.

Of note, 100m free American Record holder Anna Moesch scratched the event. She has been swimming off-events all week and appears to have her sights set on another fast 100 free later today.

Men’s 50m Butterfly — Prelims

Top 8 Qualifiers:

  1. Ilya Kharun (Sun Devil Swimming) – 23.20
  2. Michael Andrew (MA Swim Academy) – 23.37
  3. Dylan Carter (Azura Florida Aquatics) – 23.39
  4. Santo Condorelli (FAST Swim Team) – 23.48
  5. Ole Eidam (University of Michigan) – 23.55
  6. Dare Rose (Scarlet Aquatics) – 23.68
  7. Caeleb Dressel (Sporting Jax Aquatic Club) – 23.74
  8. Yassin Abdelghany (Jaguar Aquatics) & Spencer Nicholas (Nashville Aquatic Club) – 23.86 (tie)

The first circle-seeded heat saw defending national champion Dare Rose pop 23.68 to secure the win, the sole swimmer from the heat to advance to the ‘A’ final.

About a minute later, heat eight saw 2022 overall World Cup winner Dylan Carter (23.39) get the edge over Santo Condorelli (23.48) and American Record holder Caeleb Dressel (23.74), with all three safely qualifying.

Ilya Kharun and Michael Andrew went to battle in the final heat, with Kharun getting the edge off the start and never relinquishing the lead, clocking the fastest time of the morning at 23.20. Andrew was close behind in 23.37, with Spencer Nicholas (23.86).

A swim-off will be required for the final lane in tonight’s final, as Yassin Abdelghany threw down a lifetime-best 23.86 to win heat two, matching Nicholas’ time exactly.

Women’s 100m Breaststroke — Prelims

Top 8 Qualifiers:

  1. Eneli Jefimova (Estonia) – 1:06.94
  2. Aimee Canny (South Africa) – 1:07.65
  3. Emma Weber (Cavalier Aquatics) – 1:07.83
  4. Skyler Smith (North Carolina Aquatic Club) – 1:08.37
  5. Maddie Moreth (Valparaiso Swim Club) – 1:09.37
  6. Ella McQuinn (Texas A&M University) – 1:09.50
  7. Brooke Corrigan (Wisconsin Aquatics) – 1:09.88
  8. Anna Inagaki (University of Louisville) – 1:10.31

In the first of the circle-seeded heats, Olympic relay gold medalist Emma Weber (1:07.83) posted the third-swiftest time of the morning to grab the win over Indiana local Maddie Moreth (1:09.37), with Moreth’s time holding up for fifth-best.

NC State-trained Eneli Jefimova led heat seven from start to finish, swimming to the fastest time of the morning in 1:06.94, the only swimmer from her heat to break 1:10. Louisville’s Anna Inagaki was second to Jefimova in 1:10.31, the only swimmer above 1:10 to make the top eight when all was said and done.

Top-seeded Kate Douglass scratched the final heat, which was fairly unsurprising given she was entered in a triple this morning (50 fly, 100 breast, and 100 free), and the 100 breast probably made the most sense to drop given her free speed has been on fire this meet. In her absence, Skyler Smith secured the heat win in 1:08.37, with Brooke Corrigan joining her under 1:10 in 1:09.88.

In heat three, Aimee Canny was not seeded with her PB of 1:06.57, but she easily made the final with the second-fastest time of 1:07.65. A few heats later, Texas A&M’s Ella McQuin swam 1:09.50 to hack nearly two seconds off her entry time, advancing sixth.

Men’s 100m Breaststroke — Prelims

Top 8 Qualifiers:

  1. Van Mathias (Indiana Swim Club) – 58.32 *Pro Swim Series Record*
  2. Luke Barr (Texas Ford Aquatics) – 1:00.06
  3. Alexei Avakov (Indiana University) – 1:00.32
  4. Finnley Conklin (University of Louisville) – 1:00.47
  5. Denis Petrashov (Cardinal Aquatics) – 1:00.51
  6. Brian Benzing (Towson University) – 1:01.35
  7. Charlie Egeland (Bergensvømmerne) – 1:01.47
  8. Jed Garner (Towson University) – 1:01.63

All eyes were on world leader Van Mathias in heat six of eight, and he delivered with the fastest time of the morning and the fastest prelim time of his career. He opened in a scorching 26.99 before touching in 58.32, breaking Michael Andrew’s 2021 Pro Swim Series record of 58.67 and giving his own PB of 58.19 and Andrew’s American Record of 58.14 a healthy scare…and it’s just prelims.

The penultimate heat went to Mathias’ former training partner Luke Barr (1:00.06), who beat out Finnley Conklin (1:00.47).

Indiana freshman Alexei Avakov swam 1:00.32 to pull off an upset win over 2025 World Championships bronze medalist Denis Petrashov (1:00.51) in the final heat, with Brian Benzing (1:01.35), Charlie Egeland (1:01.47), and Jed Garner (1:01.63) also advancing.

Notably, American Record holder Michael Andrew (1:01.67) was four hundredths shy of booking an ‘A’ final lane, while Team USA mainstay Josh Matheny (1:01.73) settled for 11th this morning.

Women’s 100m Freestyle — Prelims

Top 8 Qualifiers:

  1. Anna Moesch (Greater Somerset County YMCA) – 52.88

  4. Cadence Vincent (University of Alabama Swim Club) – 53.92
  5. Liberty Clark (Indiana University) – 54.11
  6. Erin Gemmell (Longhorn Aquatics) – 54.24
  7. Torri Huske (New York Athletic Club) – 54.32
  8. Erika Pelaez (NC State University) – 54.49

For the second time this session, Kate Douglass entered the pool and once again claimed a heat victory. She touched the wall first in the opening circle-seeded heat in 53.77, the sole sub-54 swim of the heat, with Liberty Clark (54.11) second and Erika Pelaez third (54.49).

In the penultimate heat, Erin Gemmell eked out a slight win over Torri Huske, 54.24 to 54.32, with those two the only swimmers to advance to the ‘A’ final from the heat.

To wrap up the women’s side of prelims, American Record holder Anna Moesch swam her first-ever 52-point swim to claim the top seed, opening in 25.53 before cruising home in 52.88. Moesch grabbed the win ahead of World Junior Champion Rylee Erisman (53.66) and Alabama’s Cadence Vincent (53.92), with the latter beaking 54 seconds for the first time in her career.

lol I forgot that the WR watch in the 100 today mostly wasn’t for the swimmer that set the WR in the 50 free last night, but a different swimmer who’d never gone 52 before.

but now she did!

The seller of the century Michael Andrew needs to give up the 100 breast so I don’t get permanent eye damage and have to give my money to the failure of the American Healthcare System

Give it up. You are never getting close to 58 again. Embarrassing.

MA might wanna revisit his strategy. If he’s not relay material for LA 28, 50 BR will be pretty meaningless (should he make top 2) with roster cap. his fam frowns on folks developing endurance but its the very thing he lacks and that’s holding him back.

relay material? only way he’s doing that is a top 2 finish in a stroke 100, which…i’m not putting much money on

I could see him going all in for the 50 free, because if he hits on that he’s probably also doing enough to make the team in one of the other 50s

Van Mathias is going 57 tonight. It is obvious.

Finnley Conklin is having himself a meet. Barr with PBs in both breaststrokes as well I think.

Oh and a casual 26.99/58.32 for the stache!

KD scratching the 100breast almost makes sense to me if she wasn’t feeling her breaststroke this meet I guess.

And by not feeling it, I mean 2:21 in the 200 of course
