Highlighting night 2 of Ithaca Sectionals was NC State commit Carly Afanasewicz. The 16 year old swim to two wins on the night, showing off her versatility in the process.
Afanasewicz’s first win came in the 50 back as she touched in a 24.61 to win by over a second. Just 30 minutes later, Afanasewicz was back in the water swimming in the 400 IM as well where she earned the win in a 4:13.79. Her 50 back was a lifetime best while her 400 IM was about two seconds off her best of a 4:11.63 that she swam just two weeks ago.
Finishing 2nd in the 400 IM was Vivian Moulson who touched in a 4:15.79. That was Moulson’s 3rd swim of the evening as she kicked off the night with a 7th place finish in the 100 breast (1:03.34). Moulson was also 2nd in the 100 fly with a 54.42, finishing behind Riley Anderson who won in a 53.03. Anderson, a Duke commit, was just off her lifetime best 52.88 that she swam at this meet a year ago.
Fellow Duke commit Sofia Oliveira swam to the win in the 200 free with a 1:47.53. That was just off her best time of a 1:47.47 that she swam to finish 3rd at this meet a year ago.
16 year old Veronica McCall has already had a strong season in the 100 breast and continued that momentum tonight with a win in a 1:01.90. McCall entered the season with a lifetime best 1:05.73 and entered today with a best 1:02.16. Finishing right behind her was Savannah Bowers who touched in a 1:01.99, a best time by 0.55.
Leading the way on the boys side was Texas A&M commit Alex Barone who won the 200 free in a 1:37.46. That knocked off 0.20 seconds from his previous best that he swam earlier this month. His best time coming into the season with a 1:38.03. Last night’s winner in the 1650 free Joey Eaddy was 2nd in a 1:38.22.
The boys 400 IM was a tight battle between Anderson Baird and Kian Grabar. The two were even at the back to breast turn but Baird had a strong breaststroke leg to get out to a second lead. Grabar charged home on the freestyle leg but came up just short as Baird touched in a 3:52.58, just ahead of Grabar’s 3:52.68.
Eddy Chen, who is listed on Dartmouth’s roster as a senior but did not compete for the team this season, won the 100 breast in a 55.08. Chen’s best time is a 54.74 that he swam at the 2025 Ivy League Championships, the last time he suited up for Dartmouth.
