The 2026 Turkish Club Championships took place May 19th through May 23rd in Izmir, with 28-year-old multi-international medalist Emre Sakci establishing a new national record in the men’s 50m breaststroke.
Racing in the final of the event on day three of the domestic competition, Sakci stopped the clock at a speedy result of 26.71.
That represented the sole time of the field to clear the 27-second barrier in the final.
Next to the wall was Nusrat Allahverdi who touched in 27.20, while Berkay Ogretir rounded out the podium in 27.36.
As for Olympian Sakci, his time represented a new lifetime best, erasing his former PB and Turkish standard of 26.83 he put on the books in December of 2021. That’s the same timeframe in which he clocked a still-current European and World record of 24.95 in the short course meters 50 breaststroke.
Sakci now ranks 8th in the world in the LCM 50 breaststroke on the season.

The Turk is a European Championshps gold medalist in this event, earning the top spot at the 2024 edition of the competition. He notched a time of 26.92 to grab the gold, a time .21 slower than what he just produced for his new national record.
