Day 4 Prelims Heat Sheet

It is almost time for the final prelims session of the 2026 Speedo Fort Lauderdale Open. We have been tracking scratches all week, and today’s session is a doozy.

The biggest news out of scratches is Kate Douglass, the top seed in the women’s 200 IM, choosing not to swim the event on Saturday, opting for the 200 breaststroke and 50 freestyle instead. Douglass also dropped the women’s 100 fly where she was the 5th seed.

In other major women’s news, Regan Smith has scratched the 100 fly, where she was the 2nd seed behind World Record holder Gretchen Walsh. Smith is slightly different than Douglass, however, because she has added the 200 IM, where she is now the 3rd seed, even though she was not initially entered in the event. She will also be racing the 100 backstroke as the top seed.

On the men’s side, the biggest scratches come from Carson Foster. He was initially entered in three events on the final day, the 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM. He has dropped the 100 back, where he was seeded 12th, and the 100 fly, where he was seeded 10th. He will remain in the 200 IM as the 3rd seed.

I like when they scratch the night beforehand so not as many empty lanes. If they know they aren’t going to do the event(s), then please scratch
