The University of Olivet announced this past week that they would be discontinuing its men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs. The men’s program had three athletes on its roster this past year while the women’s team had four athletes on its roster.
“Olivet is committed to providing strong, sustainable athletic programs that serve our student-athletes well. After careful evaluation, it became clear that continuing to sponsor swimming and diving would not allow us to meet those standards moving forward,” said Ryan Shockey, vice president and chief operating officer of the University. “We are grateful for the commitment of our student-athletes and coaches, and this decision does not diminish the impact they have had on our program and campus community.”
Both programs concluded their seasons at the 2026 MIAA Championships. The women scored 125 points and were 7th out of seven teams. Bethany Stowell led the team with nine individual points. The men’s team scored 20 points and were 7th out of seven teams. With only three athletes, they were unable to swim relays.
The programs have had small roster numbers historically but saw a sharp reduction the last two years. The programs had six women and three men during the 2024-2025 season, and six women and eight men during the 2023-2024 season.
The team has been led by Megan Dossey since December 2024. Dossey was a 2016 graduate of Olivet’s swim program. The men’s program had six athletes while the women’s program had eight athletes during Dossey’s senior season back in 2015-2016.
The University of Olivet is located in Olivet, Michigan. Olivet had a population of 1,517 according to the 2020 census. The school is about 30 minutes from Lansing, Michigan’s state capital.

This is actually shocking. They were always tiny and uncompetitive. Came out of nowhere from like 2006-2012 and just dominated the MIAA, specifically diving, and won numerous times. Then the coach left and the program just imploded. Their pool is a joke and incredibly unsafe, yet they held on to the program for so long. Sad to see it go after all the effort to keep it afloat.
Another one that the b final will not save
