Gretchen Walsh is coming off of a historic performance at the Fort Lauderdale Open, ending the meet with a world record in the 100 Fly of 54.33. After the race, Walsh reflected on “entering a new era” of her pro career, saying she wants to take advantage of the fact that she is a professional and can compete in meets outside the US.
Earlier this year in March, Walsh was among a handful of elite swimmers to compete in the China Open, where she got to speak with other international pros. Those conversations inspired the Virginia grad to decide to race at the Sette Colli Cup in Rome, June 26-28, which is about 7 weeks out from Pan Pacific Championships, Team USA’s focus meet of the year.

Nice! I love the Sette Colli meet. Excited that she’ll be there. Let’s see how close to her new record she can get.
That will only make Settecolli even better than it already is. Can’t wait to see her there!
Recruiting trip?
54.33 is a pretty solid freestyle time
Again, I love seeing US pros taking advantage of racing in season meets internationally. Go Gretchen!!
To be able to swim in that pool in Rome, who wouldn’t want to go?
Top 20 fastest time incoming!
Top 20? Why not top 1 already?
Will she go alone from her Virginia group to Sette Colli, or will more athletes go?
I bet more will go
Sara Curtis?
She has to be there, no?
I think so, is a qualifying meet for Team Italy…
She probably is already selected for Euro Champs but idk
Doesn’t hurt to swim there ahaha specially if some UVA and international swimmers are going to be there

Claire Curzan is listed on Mare Nostrum website as confirmed participant. Alexy is also listed. I wonder whether they will stay in Europe until the Sette Colli.
Alex walsh sure. But Kate Douglass?
There is no way Sara Curtis misses it, even though she is already qualified.
